It was just weird when the Chainsmokers went from bro EDM to some kind of pop duo deadbanana Especially because they were even worse at that

Not an act, but probably the most disastrous rebrand of the past 15 years. The CEO and design director were fired/forced out after this.

Kelis becoming a classically trained saucier isn't exactly weird, but definitely worth mentioning.

I think a pretty strange rebrand was Joanne, even tho it did help Gaga kinda cleanse her image after the ARTPOP era. But to me the country felt so random after four eras of electronic pop music. And why choose country for an album that honors your late dead aunt who was an Italian woman. What did she even have to do with country? And to think Mark Ronson and Bloodpop were the production choices for said "country" album too. It was just vague.

It was marketed as a folk/country inspired album, but most of the album is just pop music. I agree with you though, it was a really weird choice for her.

You could say the same about ARTPOP, which was marketed as a hyper-intellectual avant-garde artistic experiment with grandiose statements and the co-sign of people like Jeff Koons and Marina Avocado, and yet we were given some of the most generic songs of her career and a Real Housewives collab. I say this as a Liddo, this era made absolutely zero sense to anyone including Gaga herself. rip

Gwen Stefani, from a cool chick next door to conservative grifting trad wife type.

If I can go back in time and told my 2000-2001 self that she would recites bible verses on an app, I would actually laugh, but well.... stare

I agree so much. I was a fan back then and the country-folk thing seemed very unnatural and forced to me.

She really came off as ashamed of her former image, so now she had to make "deep" music about "deep" subject matters like her aunt. But then there was that documentary on Netflix, and you could tell her whole family had no idea where the aunt thing came from deadbanana4 I really saw her in a different light after that.

But to be fair, I sincerely think she scraped the bottom, personally, mentally and career wise, during ARTPOP. She seemed very shocked by the bad reception, and clearly wasn't doing well, so I think she struggled a lot to continue the over-the-top pop star persona she had, and desperately wanted to detour from that.

Ariana's personality and appearance rebrand after the cheating scandal

And it's not lost on me that she tried to change her image because she was trying to be seen and taken seriously as an actress and if she was saw her as white and as proper as possible she wouldn't receive as much criticism and get awarded during awards season but now that she lost all her awards and probably will go back to music, she reverted back to her tan so her ugly white fans and low racial self esteem black stans can scream "blackiana" 😍☁️

When the people responsible for this swept the Oscars with Everything Everywhere All At Once

There are three that came to my mind when reading the title:

  • Miley Cyrus - The Bratz era was definitely unexpected and weird (for good reasons though) and everyone has their own strong opinion about it.

  • Lady Gaga - After the Artpop era, she tried to completely change her image and the whole Joanne era and trying to appeal to soccer moms since... it remains a mystery.

  • Jojo Siwa - Her recent music, videos, outfits, performances, interviews... and sexual orientation changes too redface

I don't know if this counts as a "rebrand" or if she just lost her mind. But M.I.A. going from a progressive (?) artist who backed Corbyn in two elections to a QAnon-pilled anti-vaxx Trump supporter. rip

Because she's a sell-out? rip

Gaga has spent the first years of her career shouting to her fans to be their authentic selves, only for her to ditch the costumes and crazy antics for a new image because it was not cutting it no more.

She's just success hungry and not really faithful to her brand. penguin

She was flopping so jumped on to the country bandwagon, made up a cockaninny story about going to find dead aunt Joanne. and flopped some more. It's nothing deep.
