What if GOE was Mayhem's Lead?

Featured Replies

this has probably been threaded several times before but still, now we can have a clearer retrospective

disclaimer i LOVE disease, my #1 song on Maysus, GOE is actually my #3 but i dont need eyes to see that goe is the obvious single choice here for the GP

with that, she'd have 2 "reheated nachos" type songs, and GOE s so 2007 nostalgia in a way, as a theme it works

do you think GOE would have done better than Disease if it was the lead? and let!s say that if it was released some other time in 2024, perhaps before dwas

A smasha jonny5 It would've spent 60 weeks at #1. In every country.

.

Girlfriend For The Weekend (ft The Weeknd) lead single would have been a culture collapse! clap

ugh words can't describe how much i love this song

literally pop perfection

I ranked the songs from most to least likely to be successful if released as the lead single:

  1. Abracadabra

  2. Zombieboy

  3. Vanish Into You

  4. How Bad Do U Want Me

  5. Shadow of A Man

  6. Disease

  7. LoveDrug

  8. Garden of Eden

  9. Perfect Celebrity

  10. Killah

  11. Blade of Grass

  12. Don't Call Tonight

  13. The Beast

A better lead than Daisies for sure, especially with a good music video it could have went viral but it shouldn't have been released so close to the Joker and Haglequin, it was a bad time

I am sure it would have been in the top 20 for at least 3 weeks. I am sure it would be much more successful than Disease, specially in Oceania where they live and die for this sound.

She was stuck in a hard place last fall. She promised a single + was kind of obligated to release something to fill the gap. She had hinted at a darker "return to form" already and needed a song to represent that. But she was also in a tough commercial spot, she had a massive worldwide smash, but at the same time she was in the middle of the Joker floppage. That fall single was always gonna be a sacrificial lamb at that point. I think Disease was a better choice bc it's more interesting, it hints at a return to form but also something deeper. GOE is a great song and hit worthy but it's pretty straightforward. It wouldn't have contributed to the same sort of narrative shift but it also wouldn't have had the commercial runway to take off.

With the right video, a radio deal, and a solid plan in place? It would debut at #15 on the Hot 100 before spending 20 weeks bouncing around the Top 60.

I get that the whole fanbase loves that song, but y'all need to understand that the chorus is not radio-friendly lol

It still would have been overshadowed by DWAS. Disease was the right choice, everything was going to flop so she chose quality instead.

I agree 100 %. Disease was the right choice.

However, this would've been the only option to defeat DWAS at the time.

The gays would have liked it, I guess. I'm not sure it would have done much better than Disease. Especially since Die With a Smile was smashing the way it was.

The first singles had to be DWAS, Disease and Abracadabra, those were perfect. But a video for Garden of Eden in time for Coachella and another one for Vanish Into You or HBDUWM in time for Christmas would have made the era perfect.

Or she should have done a Bloody Mary - Zombieboy - The Dead Dance film.

It for sure would've done better than Disease at least. Might even have been a legitimate hit on par with Abracadabra. I get that some parts of the song might be too gay for radio, but it's too infectious to ignore.
