I love how some people are using the term xenophobia without even knowing what it means. I've read almost every post from that Argentina megathread and everyone is condemning the racial acts displayed all over the internet by Argentinians. If people criticizing racists and racial acts is xenophobia against a country, we need the Oxford Dictionary to change their definition to align with some member's agenda.

Omg finally someone said it. This tendency of throwing around offensive words to paint others in a bad light in bad faith is so ridiculous. I'm sorry but being very patriotic is weird, there are so many racist people in my country and I wouldn't defend it EVER. It's so easy to understand if you stop to understand that the problem is bigger than us.

but why exactly does one country - a much more economically disadvantaged country mind you - get to be piled on and singled out by a user base largely made up of people who are born in countries that were/are far more central in spreading colonialist, Neo colonialist, racist ideas etc than a relative non factor like Argentina ever could? yall are following trends rather than using your brains. and pretending anti Blackness isn't a problem all throughout Latin America (as well as of course, the US/Europe etc), when, the recent situation with the elected Bolivian politician saying horribly racist things about Mbappe makes it clear that it isn't specific to Argentina, right?

There's a way to call out the racist, trying-to-be-European culture of a nation without saying, "this nation is equivalent to a nation that's doing literal genocide." I never said only Argentina is racist, we all know that forms of racism exist across Latam and the rest of the world.

people were responding to the racist incidents that were all over the news and social media during and after the WC. That's why Argentina was being discussed, that does not make ATRL members xenophobic, some of yoll love throwing that word around when it's convenient to you... you don't see americans crying calling everyone xenophobic when people criticize trump/ice etc.

Also if another country had been in the spotlight for the same thing, they'd also be criticized. doesn't matter if its in LaTam, Asia, Africa...

also saying people can't comment because they're not from Latam is ridiculous. everyone is free to discuss and criticize what was publicly reported, whether you like it or not. sorry that your country ended up in the spotlight, but I think it's completely valid for people to criticize the racist acts and gestures committed by some Argentinians (again, not all, we do know that not everyone is racist there).

multiple latinos from other countries made a point to acknowledge and discuss anti-blackness throughout latin america in that thread, so this particular point falls pretty flat. literally the only people in that thread either downplaying racism or even straight up pretending it's not a problem in their country are the handful of nationalistic argentinos (which is not every user from there because there were some reasonable ones). that is quite literally one of the big points of contention throughout that entire thing.

Well to be clear, I take issue with those Argentinos. And I applaud the argentinos who are not giving into that way of thinking, just like you're able to applause the non-Argentine Latinos who take the same stance. I applaud both groups, and the point is that your nationality does not define your politics, and once we start treating any one nation like it does, we've lost the plot and absorbed bigoted ways of thinking ourselves.

I honestly, from the bottom of my heart, think it's difficult to reach any agreement right now. They keep mixing 10 different issues together. Have a problem with the word xenophobia, right? I understand that perfectly. We can use a different term if you prefer anti-Argentina sentiment, call it whatever, that's not the point. The point is that people keep creating threads just to insult an entire country, and that's something they never acknowledge.

They ask Argentinians to admit our mistakes as if we're on trial, but that's not even the main issue anymore. It's not just about the topic you're supposedly discussing. There are literally hundreds of comments mocking, insulting, and bullying Argentinians. More than half of this forum seems to love acting like saints and moral teachers whenever it suits them.

And finally, I'm not asking for this to get mass downvoted without people even reading it. If you're not interested, that's completely fine, just keep scrolling. I only wanted to share one thing, and that's all.
