I can answer this one. Signing a deal to get "a song" by an artist usually ends up being a bit more cheaper than paying the artist to write a song for your movie, which is in turn cheaper than paying an artist to write a song for your movie/TV show/etc which is integral to the plot or whatever.

Artists and record labels usually take a look at what they have recorded during an album session and then decide which tracks they want to just vault altogether, which ones they want to give to other artists, and which to shop around to be licenses for tv shows, movies, etc. The tracks that are picked to shop for tv shows or movies don't necessarily need to be the worst ones... sometimes they are outright smashes that are given to a movie or show for the purpose of increasing their commercial reach, as the artist or label won't have a big promotion budget.

These songs being shopped around is sometimes how the actual unreleased tracks leak, too. To put an example, Taylor did this with All Of The Girls and Need during the Lover era, which were meant to be attached to two different films. And if Shape of a Woman ends up being Sunfloor, I suspect that the song leaked around the time Fox was looking to get the collaborations in place for TDWP2.

Sometimes it also happens that an artist is asked to write a song for a movie, and in those recording sessions, they actually write a track that they want to keep for themselves. Then depending on how the deal for those recording sessions was put in place, they need to negotiate if they pay back the cost of the recording, production, etc to the studio and keep the track, or if they just cannot do it and need to work around the fact and negotiate a possible inclusion in their album labeled like "(From the X Movie Soundtrack)".

Thank you! This makes sense, cool to know!

Everyone saying "how can you judge a song based on a 20 second snippet!1!1!!" are lowkey gaslighters. We have most of the chorus which should be a pretty solid indicator of the vibe, and we also have a bit of the verse and pre-chorus from the "little fun, little fun, woah-oh-oh" leak from last year. Imagine putting those two together and how they might flow, and then you're just missing the bridge, assuming it follows a traditional structure. Why is this difficult for some of you? suburban

I also never see anyone post "how can you judge based on a snippet" when most of the fanbase actually LIKES the snippet, so it sounds like you're coping.

I can usually tell whether or not I'll like a song based on the snippet with a 90% success rate because I have ears. Or maybe I'm just better than all of you, I don't know

I think it's natural that there's a different burden of proof to bringing excitement and fun to a discussion vs. bringing the energy down into childish meltdowns. Different standarts.

Of course no one is able to tell with certainty if the song is going to be good based on lq 10 second snippets.

I knew Perfect Celebrity was the best song of all time from the snippet and I was correct clap3

Fair enough, I've just never considered people disliking a song with the same level of energy they usually post about liking it being a problem on a forum where opinions are meant to be shared. If you're being negative day in, day out, I get it, but when new music is shared I just think everyone should be prepared for a range of opinions that will naturally coalesce into largely a general one, unless the song is particularly polarizing.

It's no one's responsibility to keep the Base exciting and fun, only to post how we're feeling about the art, which sometimes includes negative criticism. Which naturally will be at an all-time high when new art is unveiled. Same way positivity will be at an all-time high at times (Disease, Abra, Mayhem release days, Coachella, etc). It's the name of the game.

I guess I'd rather keep it fun and exciting. Sharing opinions is fine but some people start going a lil crazy. But let's not waste time with this anymore.

I just want Gaga to pick a good single like she did with Abra. chick3

No matter how many times I watch it, it's still so hilarious 😂 😂 😂 😂

VANISH INTO YOU IS RIGHT THERE BUT MISS MA'AM TURNED HER BLIND EYES ON IT. I'M PISSED 😡

Requiem for first anniversary would be iconique and also a kii if we bury the era now only to resurrect it briefly for the tour film later. Gar queen of nonlinear, non-chronological time structures.

Y'all also trashed shallow when it first released so I'm taking the opinions in here with a grain of salt suburban

Whack little atrocities for me -*

"Take me to the grave 'cuz I found god in the shape of a woman" is a great lyric actually

We're far from the "dancin until I'm dead x100" shallow now

I think Vanish Into You is the best song in MAYHEM

This is how long FAD felt on my first and only watch

If Hold My Hand had been sung the way it had in that Emmy-winning performance, it would've done a lot better*. No glitchy intro, quieter vocals on the first verses and chorus, and then the song builds in intensity from there.

It also would've done a lot better had it not gotten released on a random ******* Tuesday with no playlisting but I digress

I think about this look everyday. One of the best looks of her career tbh.

Not me just realizing Mayhem's 1 year anniversary is next Saturday rip

The era feels much older but I guess that's natural when we've been gifted with a true smash album campaign clap3

Gaga had 5 songs do over 1 million unfiltered streams yesterday (DWAS, PF, Judas, JD, and BR). ARUTW did 938k, and Abra did 878k.
