The more looks and genres Gaga does the better. You can't have eras without trying something new. Yes, today Joanne looks sad with its lack luster daily streams, but it fits in the tapestry of Gaga's career as a whole

I think her talent first and foremost is the main driver of her ability to bounce back (she isn't the cockroach of pop for nothing), but everything did work out in the end and that's was so cool about her. There's so many other pop stars out there that have been in bad places and don't have the skills or support to pivot, and we've seen that happen time and time again. But Gaga is special and I always tell people to never count her out because she will always find a way to be present.

My issue with Joanne is that I heard Perfect Illusion and thought we were getting a cxnty Nivana'd album

The problem I have with Joanne is that I don't even really have a problem with it. It's just kind of there, and like most of the rest of the fans I barely listen to it now. It's functional. It could have been more, but maybe that's all it needed to be. I dunno. I'm not mad about it. It's just a vague pink spot in my memory.

P.S. While Glamorous Life is the clear best of the 3 DWP2 songs we've heard, I must stress that all hands that raise against Slaype of a Woman will fall

Hard disagree. I don't think the album itself would've made much of a difference either way considering producers probably wanted her to perform the big hits as a requirement anyways.

And do we actually know the album was the deciding factor? We know Gaga said that in an interview (probably to promote the music) and the clip in 5 foot 2 where she's in the car with Bobby and they confirm she got the show, but idk. I don't think the SBHTS producers heard her latest album and was like, wow, we love this album and we know this kind of music is going to draw fans and the GP to watch the show. She was making peak gay pop music back during the BTW era and producers still wanted her for the 2012 show.

I do think Joanne started the trend of her team looking for security in the long run as opposed to chasing quick returns, which we can still feel to this day.

that and the vocal runs she added to the ending during the tour kind of show that the song is sorta a low tier classic for GAR

It could've been a great album even leaning into that Americana/country sound. The problem is we didn't really get that. We got something watered down that just doesn't feel very memorable in any way shape or form. Even Million Reasons is often outshadowed by all the great ballads that we got from ASIB
