Any word on the 4K remasters?

I'm starting to feel like she has all her stuff bundled together for some new monthly beyoncé subscription based venture where all her content will be on there including the long lost FWT

the Latinos dragging her for the Selena collab are so weird. Shes been making Spanish music since what? 2006?

Plus shes literally done so much for the Latin community… she donated a million dollars to Colombia a week ago. Istg

Yup! Lol. That flood of IG stories during the EIL week, OTRII, etc definitely makes it clear that a) she 200% cares about #s (contrary to the doom-and-gloom claims to the contrary) and b) she/her team do what they need to do to mitigate whatever drama she's facing.

I find the 4/CC comparisons in here rather interesting, because I "get" it. Big openings, low on hits that stuck (cumulatively), and rarely pointed to as her best work (though my fellow 4 stans know it's "top 2" and sometimes is not #2 lol).

If anything, it reminds how contextual audience reception is + how fickle the industry + audiences can be.

4 delivered one of the biggest openings of that year, yet the leaks, lack of top 10, and general "figuring it out as we go along" energy of the era make the story around it an "underperformance". Yes, unavoidable is the fact that it didn't perform as well compared to her previous projects at that time, but - call me biased - I will never get how a 400k-ish debut, solid overall sales, and a bunch of songs that are etched in pop culture history (regardless of their charting) can ever equal a "flop era" to anyone.

Texas hitting #1, the cultural conversation around Country, solid overall sales, and winning Grammy AOTY can never make CC a "flop" by any definition. And while I get that the lack of hits beyond the debut week leaves questions around how much it actually stuck, I think presenting it as anything other than a "success" is fans doing a lil much during this drought IMO.

All of that said, I'd actually put 4 significantly above CC in the "cultural sticking" stakes, with CC being important to her discography in its own way, but a project I predict she will probably revisit the least (the music doesn't lend itself to sitting easily within her discography when it comes to intefrating CC songs into future sets).

A lotta loose thoughts, llol, but yeah I find the 4/CC thing interesting.

Loooove everything you've said here. And yes, I don't consider 4 a flop era, and I don't consider CC a flop era, but I do think both could be acknowledged as in-some-way-lesser

No but seriously, by the time it finishes, this entire trilogy project will have taken up nearly 10 years of her career and of our time as fans. It's taken up so much space that it feels strange to think about what she'll do next.

Like does she just go back to dropping "standalone" studio albums again? Does she have another major, multi-year project in mind? Will she trilogy-ify her other albums like she did with B'Day? Will she step away from solo projects for a while and do more collaborative projects (like another DC album or EIL 2.0)?

Like the post-act-3 world is such an enigma.

I think it's been a genius way to keep her relevant for another decade, and make her work feel essential to the general music landscape. I think her logical next step is a back-to-basics RnB album, featuring collaborations with her husband, kids and Destiny's Child, but a project like that would risk putting her squarely in the I Look To You (whitney), Caution (mimi), Golden (kylie) chapter of her career (a.k.a 50 year old beloved legacy act). There's a chance it could be her Mayhem (a.k.a her back to basics return-to-form?) but I'm not sure what that would even sound or look like beyond a return to nostalgic collaborations that fundamentally cement her in a mode of 'looking backwards' that might not feel essential to a new generation.

She and Jay will also likely release another The Carters project to try and redeem their EiL era, but as capitalism continues to cripple the masses I think they'll have to radically change up their whole Mr and Mrs Moneybags deal and just focus on making bops. And judging by the way Jay got on the sultry, smooth Donk remix to moan about Twitter I just don't think he has it in him anymore.

So yeah, I think its kinda brilliant that this trilogy is lasting so long, because it's really elongating her career, but I'm also confused as to what she could do next that would keep her fresh and relevant. More likely, she takes a step back in her 50s and comes back in her 60s a la Cher, Madonna to have a few final victory laps? It's weird to think about it, but we just haven't really had a major pop star continue to dominate critically and commercially in their 50s without something slipping (either the commercial interest lacks like J-Lo or the critical establishment mocks them like Madonna).

Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a RENAISSANCE II someday.

One thing she could also lean on are stunts.

She still has a few feasible collaborations under her belt that - if she chose to make them - would be instant culture shifters and chart smashes.

Beyonce x Ariana

Beyonce x Adele

Beyonce x Rihanna

Telephone Part II

etc

Under no circumstances should that abomination of Pretty Hurts be compared to the intricate vocal production of I Was Here, let alone from a lyrical perspective.

I'd suggest having an ear examination.

Jealous and Superpower are magnificent chick3

DIL - Daddy. THYLI another skip.

B'Day - N/A standard edition. WWW deluxe.

IASF - Ave Maria I guess? Videophone too.

4 - BTINH.

ST - Pretty Hurts/XO. The platinum edition doesn't exist.

Lemonade - Sorry AND Hold Up. IDC.

Ren - Thique? AUIYM?

CC - Levi's Jeans.

Not too much on "Best Thing I Never Had" and "Pretty Hurts." While they're clearly the cheesy Hallmark cards of her catalog (because of the piano/production), both would've been rescued with studio acapella versions added to their digital singles.

like that's a HIT instrumental, should've been all over pop radio in 2014.

Speaking of Beyoncé instrumentals, this is one I wish was hers:

https://youtu.be/uYwsC6edwrE?is=QJxOsg1PZL5Knkf5

If you asked Ryan Tedder and Boots to produce something poppy together for her, this is exactly how it would sound.

High-key sounds like the perfect pop single for Self-Titled alongside "XO," "Jealous," and "Blow." Put Justin Timberlake, Ryan Tedder and The-Dream as co-writers w/ her? Smash.

mama her streaming numbers are abysmal. she has cooled commercially.

taylor swift is still doing 1M+ first weeks, beyonce hasn't been close to 1M since lemonade ten years ago.

the fact of the matter is shes tired and wants to be a normal mom with a family since she gave up her childhood and life to do this for 30 years. shes winding down so she can eventually become sade or prince and only pop out every few years for a show or an appearance. i have zero doubt once she decides she's done we will NEVER see her rip

I feel like several things can be true at once.

She's for sure winding down, but I don't "get" the "she's lagging" and/or "doesn't care" stuff

She has made it a point of duty to debut 300k-400k with the last two releases, has hustled a #1 from each project and multiple top 10s from each. I don't understand how some stans don't see in 4K that sis absolutely...cares and, to a degree, is doing "the things." That, by virtue, is NOT very Prince, Sade, etc.

Yes, the streaming numbers between projects aren't anything to scream about. But there is always a healthy uptick when she drops. And with the right collabs (ala Perfect with Ed), there will always be strategized ways for "a Beyonce" to close the gap.

she is still past her commercial peak and has told us she's not interested in playing the game anymore. of course she cares to a degree as to not flop entirely, as that would tarnish her legacy. but i still don't see a big era like b'day or sasha ever happening again. she seems very content the way she is.

It's higher than their original Bday score!

The Pitchfork review is a bit weird. It spends more time talking about Dangerously in Love and Destiny's Child than B'Day itself.

It fully ignores the remastering and the b-sides being on streaming for the first time, only makes a passing comment on the new tracks, and calls all Spanish versions inessential even though they are part of the album's legacy and CUERPO (TUMBAO) is an obvious highlight.
