unpopular opinion but Beyoncé's Jolene rendition is SOOOO good

IT'S AMAZING.
I was so unsure how it would be before it came out thinking it didn't really fit her style. I never imagined she'd change it that much and as soon as she sang "I'm warnin' you, don't come for my man" I smiled SOOOO hard... like this is a humorous rendition. All the people with their purist panties in a bunch were not getting it or allowing themselves to have fun.

Plus as I said earlier this week, it very succinctly shows the ethos of the album: changing the genre to fit HER, not HER to the genre.

Déja Vu in close proximity (within 15 minutes) to Crazy in Love is a bit much imo. But it could fit in there somewhere.
I think APESHIT deserves it's moment more than HEARD ABOUT US, and BOSS fits in better conceptually but I could see it fitting in somehow, perhaps with another mashup to make it feel more relevant (since it's an album track of a not super popular album).

why would they perform their first song together so close to the end and why would they start with the songs that came after he cheated on her. and there's no deja vu

looool this list is not a total mess like the last one, especially from the pov that it would be a joint half-time show....nevertheless, I don't want a joint SBH show from them and i dont want another joint tour or album either.

ALSO, the NFL press conference national anthem was SUCH a gag, one of the greatest moments of her career imo.

I actually completely disagree. I liked the premise of her doing it, but the execution left a lot to be desired for me.

The microphone situation was obviously a mess. It wasn't set for singing and sounded so dry. But what really got me was her weak breath control. We all know how amazing her breath control usually is and I think it was just impacted by how nervous she was. But I kinda cringe listening to it back, as she's breaking up so many phrases to snatch breath.

I like that she clocked the delusional haters who said she can't sing it, but I wasn't a fan of the execution.

Not me having company, I really did not like how she sounded looool

If that was the moment to prove she doesn't lip sync, the delivery was weak and the mic was dry as a popeye's biscuit looool

I legit do not like listening back to that clip, I immediately cringe. She looked amazing in that dress and hair tho haha

The microphone sounding a mess was what made it feel real. She needed that after the "lip-syncing" scandal was such a big deal. Yes, it sounds crunchy, but we 100% know that mic is on.

But I don't credit it as one of the greatest moments of her career because of the vocal performance, but because of the performance of the whole thing...

She's at a press conference, ready to be asked questions, many of which will address live singing. She immediately gets everyone on their feet. She sings live. She finishes and asks "Any questions?". This is soo iconic to me and something we so VERY RARELY see her do at all, as you said: directly address and shut down haters.

The only thing I dislike is that side-swept hair she insisted on during that era.

Well Super Bowl medleys don't have to feature songs in chronological order, nor do they need to tell the story of their life. A Super Bowl performance is about hype, big moments, crowd pleasing.

And yes, no Déja Vu. I think it should have variety. Doing a literal déjà vu in the span of 15 mins is unnecessary. I think it'd be better if they did a mashup of their individual songs than go there.

And yes, she'd never do something like this. That's why it's fun to write your own.

the lord is performing flawlessly with a projection that calls for her to be precise with every movement while performing some of her most difficult choreography, if that isn't unique to you then you need to relisten to alien superstar to find out what it means, because you must have the wrong definition

She kinda had to do it, but that National Anthem rendition was one of her worst vocal performances ever. Which says a lot about how good she is, because it was only bad by her standards.

I just think it was such a fun moment...

From Inauguraton Anthem press to backlash leading up to her Super Bowl performance, it gave the anticipation added hype and optimism.

2013 was such a cool year for her, even before the thing that happened 18 days before the end of it lol.

she's singing the anthem, one of the hardest songs to sing, on a crunchy gym microphone and no ear piece... after dealing with hate train #357

We won't be saying it was a bad vocal on my watch

rogue2

Also **** kelly clarkson for saying "well, I sang live!" as if anyone cared about that karaoke singer, I haven't forgotten

Looking back at the Beyhdration of 2013, it's kinda hilarious that the Hive was spiralling so much when in that year we still got:

  • A national-anthem performance at the inauguration of President Obama

  • A Super Bowl performance

  • A documentary

  • A live concert DVD

  • An Oprah interview

  • Multiple magazine covers

  • A Pepsi Commercial (featuring new, unreleased music)

  • An H&M Commercial (featuring new, unreleased music)

  • Chime for Change concert (which had a performance of Grown Woman)

  • New music releases:

    • God Made You Beautiful by Beyoncé

    • Bow Down/I Been On by Beyoncé

    • Turnt by the Dream feat. Beyoncé

    • You've Changed by Kelly Rowland feat. Beyoncé

    • Back to Black by Beyoncé and André 3000 (from The Great Gatsby Soundtrack)

    • Part II (On The Run) by Jay-Z feat. Beyoncé

    • Rise Up by Beyoncé

If anyone was around here in that time, you know the meltdowns and essays that were occurring. Granted it was more based on the confusion of what was happening, but anyway, what a time to be in the Hive.

It was the fact that she was doing everything but releasing an album is what annoyed everyone.

This. I never understood why people compare her rendition to Dolly's. It's clearly meant to be tounge-in-cheek.

You guys think the tours OTR 1 and 2 played a big impact in how limited she is, when it comes to touring these days?

I been thinking that exerting so much energy and time and TWO joint tours really changed the trajectory of the number of dates and physical output she could healthily give us at tours like the RWT and CCT.

Basically those two tours(OTR I & II) would have contributed to the physical toll on her body and knees.

No. Hope that helped

In all seriousness: Its the kids, end of story. Shes a mother first and clearly finds the ultimate joy in being a Mom and being present. Thats what limits her musical endeavors.

Being so close to Mama Tina has taught her the value of presence. Shes not the type of Hollywood Celeb who lets Nannies do the raising. I honestly think thats a lovely trait, even tho it sucks as a fan.

What a time! We were fed.

Some other things I remembered:

  • The lip-synching controversy that disappeared as quickly as it came

  • The rumors she was starring in a musical Ryan Murphy movie (It was titled One Hit Wonders - Gwyneth, Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon were Britney/Xtina/Jessica-esque solo pop acts forced together when their music stopped selling, Adam Samberg was a Benny Blanco-esque character writing their music, and I think Beyonce was the new act they were competing with? Found the article)

  • the "12 Roses" / "Rollercoaster" (feat. Miguel) dual-lead single rumor (looking back I def think "Rollercoaster" was "Rocket")

  • reportedly scrapping 50 songs (and Diplo of all people announcing that)

  • Ne-Yo being an overly "Chatty Patty" and having confidence he made the album rip

  • "Drunk In Love", "XO", "Jealous", 'Mine", and "Heaven" video shoot intel leaking (shoot photos, tweets, people spotting B+ her crew)

  • producer RoccStar somehow figuring out early he was rejected from the project and stating to Idolator that his two submissions ("Turn It On" and "Legends") were too advanced" for Beyonce rip - before unloading his demos on JLo's AKA project.

  • Her secretly appearing on "BBC" and 'Tom Ford" from Magna Carta Holy Grail , but turning the volume down on her ad-libs and staying uncredited.

  • "Say Yes" with Michelle and Kelly almost reaching the Billboard Hot 100 and gospel Grammy categories, becoming a large gospel hit.

  • Surprise BOP "Turnt" with The-Dream and 2 Chainz.

my most vivid memory are photos from the Yoncé set leaking and everyone being mad because we thought these video shoots were lead singles that she just kept scrapping over and over because she kept scrapping songs rip
