Taylor is called inorganic compared to Adele, why?

There is nothing organic about withholding your music from streaming. Marketing is mamarketing. You're welcome.

didn't Taylor do the same thing for reputation? not sure

Not sure, but if so, that'd also be considered a marketing tactic.

Back in 2015 everyone was dragging 25 that it was generic, wine mom music, rightfully so. Adele was considered washed and out of ideas. Funny to see this revisionism.

right? it's because they're mad taylor demolished the record and it's cool to hate her, they're so transparent :dies:  all artists use tactics, gaga was selling a ******* jockstrap, it's just tay has such a massive fanbase that she's able to have so many variants bc they actually sell.

are y'all really that brainwashed thinking if your fave COULD she WOULDN'T? like, please...

adele predominantly sold CD's and her album was withheld from streaming for years.

That's not true.

"25" was initially released on November 20, 2015, but was withheld from streaming platforms for seven months to maximize sales, so no...it wasn't withheld from streaming "for years" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36618429

It's funny seeing a KP fan defend Taylor, and criticize Adele for keeping 25 off streaming for 7 months when TS initially refused to put "Red" on streaming, and later boycotted Spotify by removing all her music for THREE years between 2014-2017, due to artists receiving little royalties.

When she finally did put it back on, she said it was her way of saying "Thank you to the fans for "1989" hitting 10m", but the timing couldn't have been more suspicious because it was the exact same day Katy Perry (whom she was then in a bitter feud with) released "Witness".

and she didn't put Reputation on streaming release week either...

Article dated 10 November 2017:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-41911670

"Taylor Swift has released her new record, Reputation, but it isn't available to stream.

Fans will have to buy a copy of her sixth album before it's made available on services like Apple Music and Tidal.

Taylor Swift has criticised streaming companies in the past, calling them "unfair" to musicians, and pulled her back catalogue off Spotify in 2014.

"I don't feel it fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of music," she said.

Taylor is light years ahead of Adele creatively. She's just stuck in a rut.

ch... light years? they both be serving straight milquetoast majority of the time, esp. when compared to similar types of acts. It's just that Adele appears to be less obsessed about her chart positions and sales.

For the SAME exact reasons Swifties were calling BTS inorganic when they were outselling and out streaming everyone including Taylor 2018-2020.

I guess I've always seen Adele's music, at least since 21, as little more than a studio product. It's very plastic and corporate, and it feels engineered to be popular. Adele has yet to flex her creative muscle the way Taylor did with Speak Now or folklore/evermore.

At least there are moments in Taylor's discovery where she tried to do something new (for her), even if she hasn't done it for at least three album cycles now. By comparison, Adele has never done this, and she's never shown any interest in doing so.

(And personally, I find Adele's writing has always been on the weaker side.)

This isn't to say either are untalented. But Adele hasn't shown much if any progression since she blew up.

one had 2 variants, debuted with 3.5M+ shattering the old record AND had two other 1M+ selling weeks, sold 7M in the span of 5 weeks AND a record breaking 1 million downloads for lead smash single "Hello" that went #1 in 30+ countries

the other had 30+ variants that broke the record by 500k only to drop by 93% in its 2nd week

excuse me, it's 97%. Atleast close to 100%

I disagree!

Adele was already trying new things on "21" with the Motown infused "Rolling in the Deep" and "Rumor Has It", which are both very different to songs from "19".

"Send My Love" is a blend of several genres, primarily pop R&B, with elements of Soul and Reggae, and "I Miss You" is reminiscent of Florence and the Machine's work.

"Can I Get It" is the most experienal she's ever been, as it has elements of country / Jangle pop.

"Oh My God" combines vintage soul with R+B.

"Hold On" is Gospel tinged..

"Strangers By Nature" has that beautiful nostalgic, "old movie" sound reminiscent of a jazz standard from the 1930s, so I don't see how she hasn't progressed from her debut.  Try listening to "Daydreamer" and then "Oh My God" back to back. If that's not progession, I don't know what is.

It is pretty clear Adele and Taylor have completely different approach to fame and selling records etc.

No need to discuss it anymore

"But the variants, it's inorganic!!!" as if Adele withheld 25 from streaming for months for the sake of artistry:sabrina:

I am not trying to pick arguments, but I feel like people forget that Taylor too initially withheld Reputation from streaming because at one point team Taylor thought she was going to pull like 2 million or more sales.

This is from Billboard, 8 November 2017:

Why Taylor Swift's Label Is Predicting 2 Million Album Sales of 'Reputation' Next Week -- And How It Could Come Close
By Ed Christman | November 08, 2017 9:53 AM EST

Usually, when gearing up for a new Taylor Swift album release, Swift's Big Machine Label Group lowers expectations by initially suggesting that the albums will debut with about 750,000 units in the opening week, even though Swift's last three albums scanned over 1 million units in first-week sales. Speak Now sold 1.05 million in the week ending Oct. 31, 2010, Red scanned 1.21 million units in the week ending Oct. 28, 2012, and 1989, tallied 1.287 million units for the week ending Nov. 2, 2014, according to Nielsen Music.

But this time around, industry sources tell Billboard, Big Machine is telling its accounts Reputation will see first-week sales action of 2 million units, more than Swift has done for any of previous albums. That's despite the fact that the U.S. music industry is far more dependent on streaming than sales than it was in 2014, with album sales down 18 percent so far this year while audio-on-demand streams -- the only streams that count toward the Billboard 200 -- are up 59 percent year to date.

Big Machine's uncharacteristically lofty projections have set off a debate among the data analysts and sales teams at competing record labels over whether the Nashville label can come close to achieving that figure -- and how it would do so, even though the first singles off Reputation aren't performing as well as the first cuts off 1989.

Accusing Adele of doing the 'inorganic' thing is hardly fair when Taylor did the same thing only to end up with less than a third of the sales. Therefore calling out Adele's lack of artistic integrity is not valid when you're not willing to admit that by the same standards of judgement Taylor has even less of that.

This is fair, and I thank you for thinking about it before responding. I would just say that most of what you've listed comes from a similar place (R&B and soul), and that's fine. It's more than okay to have a specialty. Nobody needs a disco album from Gun N Roses, for example, so I don't expect Adele to change everything about her sound.

But it's often the same tempo, the same singing style, the same approach to songwriting, the same ... well, everything. Soul is a vast genre that she could be exploring, but I think she's very comfortable where she is and isn't interested in doing anything different on a wider scale. I respect her talent; I just want to see her do something more with it. And it's shocking that I dislike her music so much given that she's worked with some people whose own works I absolutely adore.

She just doesn't excite me. I already knew what Easy on Me would sound like before it came out, and I was right.

Taylor dropping this slop is the best promo for Adele whenever she decides to come back
