Everything is cyclical in pop culture so I do think there will be a new era that allows for a multitude of big vocalists.

Many of them literally can't 
 

And a focus on production over vocals in the modern era aside from ballads and maybe acoustic versions

 

I want an era full of Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Leona, Delta, Christina, Toni again  I am sick of whispering and cursiving singing (in fact I never digged that style of singing since the beginning, unless you have a voice and know how to use it like ms legendary Amy Winehouse).

 

The only one who is serving vocally in the mainstream rn is Ariana.

Gen Z is full of insecurities. The celebs they look up to have to be mediocre and relatable. Anyone showing off actual talent will exacerbate their insecurities.

Thank God my fave Lady Gaga can actually sing. I can't imagine stanning these new girls with their whisper vocals. 

I feel like good singers are still appreciated, but ballads where the focal point of the song is vocals aren't 

even adult contemporary doesn't care for soaring vocals it's a trend i don't see returning 

 

Because they don't have the range....

cause we want conversational singing, not vocal show offs

Mariah was originally a back up singer to Brenda K Starr and later covered it herself 

This is one of my favourite MC songs. I really do love the way she sings here.

 

90's (and early 00's) Mariah is peak vocals. She's had the best tone I've ever heard from a singer. Tone is very subjective, but hers is just so...pleasant

Adele and Lady Gaga please stay with us until the era of vocalists begin again.

There's a spot for everybody imo, but I personally find that high-caliber singers like Mariah, Whitney, and Celine translate well live.

 

The issue is that I think this sound got a little played out by the 2000s. It became more about the vocal acrobatics and less about the music itself. Christina and early solo Beyoncé were probably most notorious for going overboard with their vocals on every song.

Mariah is a rarity in pop music that we cannot take for granted. 

Now come to think of it, Mariah and Whitney had everything going for them to sell those loads of albums.

Of course, they were seasoned vocalists that can be compared to the likes of Aretha or Barbra  but what set them apart from others is their tones, which have that 'marketable' appeal - unique, pleasing, and edgy at the same time. No one else ever possessed their golden tones before or after them.

I'm glad this style of singing is antiquated. I hate all the shouting some singers do. It's not enjoyable just because they can hit high notes. I prefer a nice tone that singers like Ariana and Beyoncé have. Their voices feel like butter in your ears.

You don't particularly need big vocals to make great music but we DO NEED THE VARIETY, so the industry can create more diverse art! 
 

To answer your question - to truly become a great vocalist, it requires natural talents and hard work to hone and grow your skills, which requires 119837272883 hours of trainings. In addition to the trainings, you have to make a lot of lifestyle sacrifices in order to optimize and preserve the quality of your voice. 
 

Now day, ******* prefer to type a few commands into chatGPT and focus the marketing on song-writing instead. Why work hard when you can just deceit with mimick? It's human nature after all!

I don't need the ballads or even soaring vocals, per se, but I need artists to actually sing again. The talk-singing and whispered, subdued vocals are just tired, at this point, and it doesn't build confidence in their actual skill as a vocalist. It went from being stylistic to the limit of what it seems like they can do.
