Very solid, cohesive album. Gonna need more listens for the songs to marinate

 

On first listen my standouts are: Jealous Type, Take Me Dancing, Acts of Service, and Happy

Aw Stranger, Doja likes bi men who like dick. She's so relatable!

I'm just not feeling this album at all. Nothing really stands out and I can't even understand what she's saying half the time.

I mean there's just no PTTRs, Say So, Juicy, Kiss Me More, Need To Knows, etc. 

 

I know those are just some of her biggest hits, but they are still great songs with earworm hooks. 

 

This album is definitely good but there's no hits for me off the bat so far (even Take Me Dancing doesn't seem like a real strong single to me). It's a very vibey and cohesive album, I think there's a strong vision and tie between all the songs. But it does feel like an album full of album tracks.

Take Me Dancing is good but the mixing is kinda off slightly, which keeps it from being great

make it up might be my fave song wait

I love the 2nd rap verse on Lipstain…something about the flow reminds me of Rick Ross (a la Maybach Music) lol.

Stranger, Take Me Dancing, One More Time are highlights for me on a first listen 
 

The production is okay to me, not amazing not actively bad, but a lot of his antonoff synth sounds are real tired for me at this point. Just imo but I feel this album's overall soundscape would be a lot more unique with someone less over saturated as the main producer. Just comparing her pop albums planet her had a lot better and more interesting sounding production to me that highlighted doja's voice better too

 

For modern love albums IGOR by tyler is one of my standouts because it tells a story from start to finish, love, excitement, pain, drama, lingering hope to still be friends, etc. not all albums have to have overarching narrative cohesion obviously but it does make them even better to me, I feel like doja could have done something like that with a love album, tell whatever her love story is, real or imagined, but I'm not getting any narrative from all the songs together, they're just all various love based, or yearning songs with synths and sometimes sax, so it doesn't have a high peak for me or necessarily takes me on a journey but it's not bad just not omg amazing to me. I'll see how it grows on me 

 

Is Happy, the second to last track on the album the first song on it to have any french in it? If not nvm but I just find that funny with the album being a french title

I don't why stranger sounds like summer to me lol. It needs to be released as a single next summer 

Ok I finished, Couples Therapy is my favorite by far.
