Tyla - 'WWP'

I don't think so.

Her label went all in on her. Videos, a full album, award show hosting/performances, more videos, payola, awards and still no GP attention or hit single. At this point if I was epic I would also shelve the album, way less risk on diminishing returns for both them and Tyla.

Unfortunately this is the usual routine when a label is contracted to get a certain number of albums out before dropping an artist.

If they signed her for 3 albums they could do part 1 and part 2 of the mixtape thing and part ways with her by the end of the year.

A mixtape is contractually not an album, so none of this counts if she has a certain album contract

Mixtape? Is she getting shelved already?

  • Mixtapes are smart in the streaming era though because you don't have the contractual obligations that come with making an album but you still get to put out new music and reach people

  • Mixtapes absolutely work if the quality is good and a song goes viral    See: Doechii's Alligator Bites Never Heal, PinkPantheress' Fancy That, JT's City Cinderella

Where is the media, the visuals, the non-stop payola… oh Epic when i catch you!

the way it could be a Top 10 hit with the right promo

Also she said part 1 of the mixtape so thank god ?

i loved both songs, now we shall see how long it will take for her to drop the second part

Also she saying DYNAMITE is a 2 year old demo she had been sitting on, kinda gives us hope, pt2. can include DISCO

It can certainly be used as the label releasing enough material to fulfill their end of a contract. Especially considering an album can be counted at multiple lengths.

Its happens to many artists. Labels can say they released (and invested) X amount of songs/projects that equal an albums worth of material and satisfy a contract in that manner. Or they can keep the artist in purgatory and just not release anything. I feel like it's going either way for Tyla.

she needs her Umbrella moment

I love that she is staying true to her sound but I'm afraid switching it up a bit is the only way she's getting another smash

If Epic isn't dropping Zara Larsson or even Meghan Trainor what makes you think they'll drop Miss Tyla? Be serious for one sec

Honestly i like the EP but it's not spectacular tbh, i still have to stream her self-titled

Agreed it's time for her to do her sellout era, nothing but cash grab singles :nicole2:

Dynamite > Is It > Mr Media > Bliss

They're all great tracks and on repeat (minus Bliss, but still a good track), this EP is fantastic. :jonny6:

I think it is a nice project for her to give to the fans/world. Her debut album just has gotten a deluxe version not too long ago, so a sophomore album might've been a bit too early, that's why an EP works great. Also there are more tracks to look forward to with the second part!

yea i love that she always emphasizes she wants to be an AFRICAN pop star, and i like most of her music so far even if a lot of it can sound the same but she should explore some other ways to bridge her sound and goals with more global pop sensibilities in her future records. she has a lot of potential she just needs to unlock it.

RIIIIIIIISE :duca:

Music video for dynamite has been shot. Probably coming out in next 2 weeks.

And then 2nd mixtape or full album probably in September/october. Bookmark me

As I said, Dynamit is such an obvious smasha, especially with Wizkid as a feature who is just such a household name. Routing for her!

Is a 4-tracks EP eligible at charting ? US and everywhere else of course.
