There won't be a hit and it'll get delayed or just called a mixtape.

Mixtape? Is she getting shelved already?

  • Mixtapes are smart in the streaming era though because you don't have the contractual obligations that come with making an album but you still get to put out new music and reach people

  • Mixtapes absolutely work if the quality is good and a song goes viral    See: Doechii's Alligator Bites Never Heal, PinkPantheress' Fancy That, JT's City Cinderella

'We Wanna Party' is meant to be a bridge to the album — and when the album comes," she teases, "it's going to be such a totally different vibe than what people are expecting.

hmmm... so mixtape soon, album in Oct?

Ampiano...again. tyla girl.

Its time to make the move. New music video directors, producers, ect. European and american ones.

The same old sound isn't gonna last long.

Nabil must go.

Who directed the push 2 start music video?

I'm guessing Variety meant the mixtape. And the mixtape was clearly meant to be her next album but the label rebranded it to mixtape :dies:

The music has been great so it sucks that her label keeps fumbling the promotion. People need to know these bops exist lol.  The Messy release dates and lack of clear information has not helped. Her performances played a major part in her doing well in the US and globally but there's been no televised performances and only one radio interview so far :deadbanana2: I'm glad she's doing more live shows and festivals though. Touring and building a stronger fanbase could be a big game changer.

She should have done a co-lining tour with Tate. That would've been great exposure.

I don't understand why labels don't understand that you have to drop albums to build a fan base.

Look at Tate & Sabrina with each album they get bigger & bigger. Tyla should not be releasing a half ass mix tape.

Drop the album promoting different songs on her album until one clicks.

She needs to find a way to mix amapiano with pop songs, her mainstream career won't last long if she doesn't move on, sadly it's like that.

And don't get me wrong, I love her songs but amapiano on mainstream has a short live.

Judging by the fact this interview took place around Met Gala I think a lot of plans changed lol.

The EP was a good move to get music out. She needs a smash like Rihanna had SOS for her second era.

Amapiano is a genre that keeps evolving and merging with innovative sounds from Afro House, Afro Tech, Bacardi , Gqom or 3 Step (all South African). I prefer to see her explore this instead of rehashing the same Pop sound that we already know.

this sold 3k units first week :rip:

meanwhile KATSEYE sold like 60k with a 5 track EP.

Tyla baby its over. Epic failed you

It's totally different. Katseye are a group made from the biggest Kpop label lol.

Not touring after Water really hurt Tyla chances to grow a dedicated fanbase. I'm glad she announced dates for the Asian tour, but she needs to add more dates globally ASAP!

I don't even think the songs sound that similar but the chanting in almost every chorus really doesn't help her case nnn

still really like this project and am excited for the mixtape/album

How did her label fumble? I feel like Tyla fans don't understand the industry at all. They have given her a lot of exposure and promotion. She hosted an entire awards show, multiple singles and videos, brand deals, like that alone is insane exposure.

The GP truly just isn't latching on. Water was bigger than Tyla herself is. It's almost a curse to have your first hit be a viral one because people really don't check for you after if you cant keep it up.

Not the Eurocentric and US centering sound

I think this is the thing. She needs a bonafide HIT.

This is bad for anyone especially someone on Tyla level. I can bet you anything Ashely Tisdale wouldn't sell this low or anyone with her push.

 Epic dropped the ball :biblio:

tbh the songs are good but i dont think they wouldve make a good second album

The fact that her face isn't on the cover probably didn't help with people not knowing this dropped.

I like the songs though, Mr. Media is on repeat :gaycatina1:

I came to ATRL expecting a thread regarding the situation. Idk how well the EP did in other music markets but they are tearing her apart over her 3k US sales and the perception that she's uppity and the coloured controversy.

I'm so shocked by the discourse simply because I thought we left that in the last era :rip: I feel like it's worse this time bc it's harder for me to escape & why is everyone acting like she said she hated black people??? Like... the people making the tweets/videos have no receipts or sources to back up what they're saying, yet everyone is believing it :deadbanana:
