Mixtape? Is she getting shelved already?

  • Mixtapes are smart in the streaming era though because you don't have the contractual obligations that come with making an album but you still get to put out new music and reach people

  • Mixtapes absolutely work if the quality is good and a song goes viral    See: Doechii's Alligator Bites Never Heal, PinkPantheress' Fancy That, JT's City Cinderella

How did her label fumble? I feel like Tyla fans don't understand the industry at all. They have given her a lot of exposure and promotion. She hosted an entire awards show, multiple singles and videos, brand deals, like that alone is insane exposure.

The GP truly just isn't latching on. Water was bigger than Tyla herself is. It's almost a curse to have your first hit be a viral one because people really don't check for you after if you cant keep it up.

I think "Water" and the promotion around it & the performances did assist in making her a name. Especially with all the discourse around this flopping / discussion about her Breakfast Club comments. So people know her enough to be talking about her current status.

The situation is more "Water" being lightning in a bottle. None of her other songs have been as good. It was a one-off hit song, while the rest of her music is listenable but not friendly.

Seeing her comments about the label trying to pressure her to create more pop sounding songs makes sense as to why she's bombing. Rihanna grabbing SOS and running with expanding her sound is proof that some artists just have an ear for what will work for them and a lasting career, while Tyla just seems like she simply wants to make music and doesn't care if it's successful. Which is fine but don't sign a contract that's going to lock you down if you're not willing to play.

Mr Media video coming :jonnycat:

But why? Whats the point or reason

Also she needs to start releasing her music videos the day of a single release.

Her lead for for 2nd album better have the music video same day as release

What's the point? feed us, girl!!!

We got 8 music videos on her debut album and now 4 out of 4. I love that she keeps doing that, even for non-singles, especially now that some artists don't release a single one for a whole era.
