Celine & Mariah....

Ladies....32xDLW.gif

We need the collab to happen before both of yallz voices are completely gone! It's a shame we never got a vocal trinity collab (rip Whitney :'( ) but Mariah and Whitney collabed and I would love to hear a Celine & Mariah collab even tho both of them are not at their prime anymore (Mariah's voice has been sketchy for decades now and Celine's illness has sadly taken hers for the most part). Would u be here for a duet between these two living legends? Discuss:

She has an entire section in her memoirs where she shades Celine without explicitly naming her, it all stems from the 98 Divas live performance during which Celine went toe to toe with Aretha for the last performance. The Obsessed chanteuse thought it was disrespectful to try and compete with the Queen of Soul.

Maybe there was also some jealousy at play, Celine was much bigger than Mimi at the time

This will never happen sadly. Mariah doesnt like Celine. Secondly, even thi I am a much bigger lamb than a fan of Celine, I must admit that Celine has preserved her voice much better despite all of the sickness she has been through. So I am not sure how a collab btw them would sound nowadays. Mariah can still actually do the sing-melodic rap kinda songs but a collab btw them should sound like a duet/ballad?

Apart from the rivalry, their voices also really don't fit together. Maybe during Music Box/The colour of my love it could make sense, but not really at any point after that. The Mariah/whitney duet only happened when they were pursuing a more similar sound with butterfly/my love is your love.

Mariah Carey is a legend—no question—but over the years, she's built a reputation for being unnecessarily shady. It often feels less like confidence and more like insecurity masked by sarcasm. She's constantly throwing jabs at other artists, but no one responds because, frankly, the industry has moved on. Her recent performances show clear vocal decline, and the energy just isn't there anymore. She's no longer the powerhouse she once was.

Let's be honest—her newer music isn't connecting. Even with heavy radio push and promotion, it's not charting, and that says a lot. Now she's coming to Australia, co-headlining with Pitbull, and it feels like a step down. The excitement isn't there, and fans aren't lining up like they used to. That's not hate—it's just the reality of a changing industry and an artist who hasn't evolved with it. Sometimes what you put out comes back to you, and maybe this is that moment.

I'm a lamb DOWN, but Celine can probably outsing Mariah nowadays. In comparison to their prime she's preserved her voice very well

Mariah has been bitter for ages that Celine sang with Aretha like that - which is what Aretha was asking for! "Will somebody help me lift it?" Her and Celine were sparring in a friendly way, a call and response. Mariah was so intimidated during Chain of Fools. Terrified! Celine ate her up and she's mad about it to this very day. I'm a lamb for life, but Mariah was wrong and is wrong for that. She's mad af cuz the vocals were already booking vacations far and away from her throat back in 1998! It's been damn near 30 years and we still don't know where they went!

I like Celine more as a person than Mariah. Mariah put away a part of herself after the 90s. She started hiding behind the diva glam persona. She used to be a sweet and playful person. I genuinely miss her.

Name a single instance Mariah started the shade.

And her recent song, yes with radio push, is the only solo song by any of her peers and even most from a generation younger to chart in ten years or more. This industry is ageist and expecting her to smash at this age is unrealistic. Does that also "say a lot" for Madonna, Celine, Janet, Xtina, JLo, Britney, Kylie or are you just desperate for shade?

They both have experienced significant vocal declines. Celine's began well before her illness but she is much, much better at lipping.

She didn't like the Divas moment , but they are actually quite friendly in real life...have socialized, exchanged flowers during births and deaths, etc.

This was the 90s and no one was bigger than Mimi at that time so that's a bit silly to claim. Titanic had just been released a few months prior and Celine was having a huge moment, but she hadn't come anywhere close to Mariah's sales yet since LTAL had just been released a four months prior. Mariah also maintained huge sales at the end of the decade as well...35 million albums between 1997 and 1999 with Butterfly, Rainbow, and #1's alone.

Save your 'I'm a lamb but I'm also a ho' responses. Mariah doesn't hate Celine Dion. She was just a little too proper with the black culture and Aretha Franklin.

OT: It should happen but would go under the radar I guess.

Just off the top of my head

(solo version charted at #67)

Mariah doesn't have the vocals anymore to go head to toe with Celine

Thank you for reminding me of "No Sleeep" such a smooth bop.

I think it's mental to talk about somebody repeatedly, even writing about them, without naming them, it just looks nuts

No Sleeep charted 10 years ago. GMG charted in 2021. You said Mariah's song was the only solo song by any of her peers and even most from a generation younger to chart in ten years or more - which is factually incorrect.

Hope that helps

Mariah is still bitter about this nonsense.

I would be mad too If my voice was raspy and hoarse while Celine serves ***** with The Aretha.
