Celine & Mariah....

Featured Replies

Mariah was clearly jealous of Celine and the Aretha moment was the perfect excuse to hide that jealousy.

Also, claiming that Celine was not bigger than Mariah in the late 90's is delusional

She has an entire section in her memoirs where she shades Celine without explicitly naming her, it all stems from the 98 Divas live performance during which Celine went toe to toe with Aretha for the last performance. The Obsessed chanteuse thought it was disrespectful to try and compete with the Queen of Soul.

Maybe there was also some jealousy at play, Celine was much bigger than Mimi at the time

toe to toe? celine outsang Aretha BIG TIME lmaooooooooo

the way Mariah has got bothered by it and it still gets her today is what shocks me. like girl, let it go. nobody cares.

said that Mariah would never duet with celine. even though they both respect each other.

Mariah is known for being jealous of other pop girls. She's always throwing shade and showing insecurities.

Lets be honest Celine would destroy her easily in singing and sales

No Sleeep charted 10 years ago. GMG charted in 2021. You said Mariah's song was the only solo song by any of her peers and even most from a generation younger to chart in ten years or more - which is factually incorrect.

Hope that helps

So, No Sleeep charted ten years ago. Thanks for confirming.

And yes, from the list of peers and those from the following generation I gave. We needing Hooked on Phonics, love?

Aretha talked to her in her trailer about the other girls trying it. She was not pleased. It's detailed in her memoir and Patti LaBelle also spoke to her about it.

This was spring of 98. Celine was only starting to smash from November and Mariah was coming off dominating the entire decade and would end the decade with the most album sales of any artist.

I'm a lamb DOWN, but Celine can probably outsing Mariah nowadays. In comparison to their prime she's preserved her voice very well

Does Celine even sing live nowadays?

Yes, Janet's last lead single No Sleeep charted just 10 years ago and Good Morning Gorgeous charted 4 years ago therefore rendering your statement that "Mariah's song is the only solo song by any of her peers and even most from a generation younger to chart in ten years or more" inaccurate.

If by "we" needing Hooked on Phonics you mean you then yes, that seems to be the case

Hope that helps

I'm not sure you understand the word "or" in that sentence which is making me cackle a little.

Last solo-charting song by the people I mentioned:

JLo- few months from 10 years ago
Janet - 10 years ago

Britney - 12 years ago

Xtina - 13 years ago

Madonna - 16 years ago

Celine - 18 years ago

Kylie - 22 years ago

hence "10 years or more." :deadbanana2:

It is; however, very telling that the only correct example you could find was a single song from four years ago by someone not even mentioned. Thanks for solidifying my point!!

The Courage Tour which ended in 2020 because of Covid was 70% live and 30% lipped and that tour was supposed to have 150+ shows worldwide, Celine might have lipped her recent performances, but she never lipped more than 30% of her concert/tour unlike others..

Celine dominated 1996 til 1999, tens of million albums sold, 2 sold out worldwide tours, multiple awards winning, etc she was the global phenomenon

Mariah yeah was successful trough out the decade but mostly locally and faded away when Celine took the spotlight

Is this true? I don't keep up with her as I am not a fan but This performance looks 100% lipped outside of the adlibs at the end.

Celine was enormous at the end of the decade no question, but Mariah ended the decade with the most sales and still sold 35 million albums between 97 and 99 despite her shift to a more hip hop influenced sound from contemporary r&b and pop. Also, your second statement is ridiculous considering Mariah's flop era didn't start until 2001 and Celine would only keep smashing herself until about 2003 when she herself started experiencing a decline

they're a troll. Celine has been lipping more than half of her shows for a decade and a half herself and nearly fully for some time, but she's much better at doing it.

Right. Celine lips just as much as Mariah.

Yes It's All Coming Back was lipped during the tour except the end and I can count 6 lipped songs and 16 live songs  during the tour

I wouldn't call any serious decline for Celine tbh

2003-2007 — biggest residency of all time

2008-2009 — 300$ million grossing tour

2011-2018 — second biggest residency of all time

2019-2020+ — was on track to have another 300$ million grossing tour

Not you trying to redifine the rules of the English language because you can't take an L :deadbanana4:

Your sentence clearly meant that no other solo artist from her generation has charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in the past 10+ years - which is simply not true, no matter how much you try to move the goalposts.

I read something that was incorrect, saw an opportunity to plug my faves and corrected your claim in a respectful, non-catty way. You could've just said thank you and kept it pushing but nooo

Thanks for finally admitting that what you said wasn't accurate though!

And yet every single name I mentioned hasn't charged a solo song in ten years or more. All of Mariah's associated peers and several from the next generation. You're clinging to one song from 2021 in poor faith as a caveat to make yourself look better when you continually get clocked in every thread you enter and then feign innocence. Anything else you'd like to say negatively about MJ's victims, btw, Mr. "Respectful, Non-Catty"

not my fault you couldn't do math on 2015 and had to double down to cover your tracks. :ahh:
