I don't miss inauthenticity. If a brand taps out of any form of progressivism because it's not currently in vogue, I'd rather know where they stand.

No one hated Rainbow Capitalism. They hated corporations using gay people as a distraction or to avoid accountability.

See: Google promoting itself as a pro-LGBT workplace yet donating to Republicans who end up passing anti-LGBT legislation.

The criticism isn't that "Rainbow Capitalism shouldn't exist".

It's that you run into contradictions when corporations leverage pulling their support for LGBTQ away from you if you try to hold them accountable for other issues they are found being corrupt on. Elon Musk and half of Big Tech in SF went from "#LoveIsLove<3" to "Actually LGBTQ is Pedophilia" when the left tried to hold them accountable for monopoly, exploitative practices. :deadbanana2:

I think it was an inevitable part of gay acceptance becoming mainstream in the US. Instead of pushing for similar broad acceptance for trans people, some fell for the psyop that this was somehow a bad thing.

Honestly seems on point considering we got Morgan Wallen occupying the top 3 spots on the Hot 100

Gone are the days of a brat summer....

Is it really acceptance when these same corporations would literally sponsor the killing and persecution of the LGBT if it will spare them some bucks or make them money?

The problem with rainbow capitalism is it corporatizes the LGBT movement into a shallow vibe and aesthetic when its way more than that. To the rest of the world outside of our spaces and spheres of influence, it seems that the LGBT is being advertised by these brands as some marker of wealth/privilege/elitism, which is ironic given how the LGBT people are often the real underdogs. Somehow somewhere I feel like it went haywire after #LoveWins which gave America its right to marry anyone he/she wants. The humanity is stripped away in favor of easily marketable and aesthetically pleasing manifestos that read more like PR- framed declarations.

I kinda do miss it. It was cute even though most of it was fake. Fake it till you make it is a thing. Now everything is just so gray and hopeless

Are these people so dense that they miss corporations using Pride only for profit while donating heavily to right-wing organizations, parties and structures that are in power and trying to take back our rights today? :skull: The issue has always been amnesia: PRIDE IS A RIOT. Don't forget this. The fight, no matter where you are in the world, was never over. Lemme share one of my favorite Pride posts here: https://www.instagram.com/_habibitch_/p/CeQjAZSLaEj/

I'm kinda still seeing it in the UK idk? My local supermarket is covered in pride flags and I've seen it in multiple shop windows.

I think we need to make peace with the fact that Responsible Capitalism does not exist and will never do.

And yes, we still should hold coporations accountable for shitty stuff like that, but we also should be aware that, in the long list of enemies, Google ranks in the bottom half.

And this comes from someone who worked at Facebook for over 10 years, well before it became the absolute disgusting mess that it is now.

I couldn't care less… I don't waste my money on consumeristic crap whether it's gay pride month, Halloween, Christmas, or whatever the f. All corporations are evil and do not actually about any one group. All they care about is your money. Whether they wanna be performative towards the LGBT community or not makes absolutely no difference to me.

I do not. Rainbow capitalism is performative and predatory to get us spending money to their company. Their support was always limited to this time of the year. The minute July comes around, all that disappears in an instant, without a trace.

Meanwhile, there are businesses I frequent that advertise as LGBT friendly and their support of it all year round. And I live by a somewhat gayborhood a few miles down that also do the same, all year round. These are the places that care. And not performatively.

I miss the vibrancy of it, but I always thought it was just superficial to start with.

It felt very forced to me and i never was good at ease with it. You can tell now it wasn't genuine at all.

Let them have cake.

UK is becoming increasingly Americanised, the shift we're seeing in the US will happen here in a few years when Labour lose the next GE

Every day I wish that milkshake someone threw on Nigel Farage had been sulphuric acid

:clack:

A little yes. It was not perfect but better than the hell we live in now. But I agree with everyone that authentic support is always better and a lot of it was pretty fake and exaggerated, which also hurt us a bit. Nevertheless, I am grateful. In many countries around the world, our community receives no support at all.

I like the rainbow as a symbol of diversity, freedom, etc.
