On my first listen I don't think any of the songs came even close to The Sofa.

I've been thinking and this album really solidifies Ellie as the center of the band, she really feels like the lead character, the protagonist, the superstar of the band thanks to her incredible vocal performances and power to guide every single song, as well as her charm and personality shining throughout the album. and I actually love that this is direction the band is taking.

Just watch me build castles in the hourglass sand
Might still hear screaming in the hallway from the empty pram
In my mind I didn't put it there, it was some other fucker's plan
I wanna age with excitement, feel my world expand

Thorns is SOTY contender along with The Sofa  amazing opener and closing track, they're insane.

Not a bad album by any means, just a tad underwhelming. I'm glad they didn't just release a rehash of their previous albums and I'm actually digging the '70s influences, but idk, I feel like overall the album is too polished and lacks the "edge" that makes Wolf Alice so unique. Ellie's vocals are superb tho. Just Two Girls and White Horses are soooo good and my favorite songs by far, followed closely by Passenger Seat and Bread Butter Tea Sugar. The album might grown on me eventually.

 

I'm hopeful that they'll return to their dream pop/shoegaze/noise rock roots in the near future, at least in some capacity 

God I cannot stop spinning this! It's absolutely stunning Play It Out hit me so hard there's some really gorgeous moments here. Idk there's something really special about someone else's introspection causing you to do the same

completely different than blue weekend, but probably will end up as my AOTY

I'm glad they went for something different and more classic. They're showing their versatility and musicianship, while mantaining a classic Wolf Alice imprint especially in the melodies (I mean, Midnight Song would fit on Blue Weekend so well.) 

 

The narrow-minded rock fans are already complaining on the internet I've seen, I guess 70s rock ain't rock enough for them, but these influences make the album such a grower imo

this is my first album by them i heard and im a fan, i loved every single song, especially leaning against the wall, passenger seat and just two girls 

The Sofa may just be SOTY  incredible outro for the album

This album grew OMG I knew I should never doubt these icons.

 

White Horses, Passenger Seat & Just Two Girls is my top 3 right now. Bloom Baby Bloom might be my least favorite (or Play It Out). Really solid album though!

 

Midnight Song is giving Turn to Dust omgg

trying so hard to get into it, but it's not hitting for me as hard as their other 3 albums :(

 

Play it out is definitely my favorite non single that songs a stand out for me!

Nothing will touch SOTY. They come back every era with one EXTREMELY good lead single, often something that seems like a generational classic, and then the record is short and everything else is just Meh.

Happened with Last Man On The Earth as well lol
