Whenever we see a shift in ruling political parties to the left or right, media and pop culture usually follows suit.

 

   I'm curious to know where you align yourself in political values and whether the past 5 years so far has caused a shift in your stances. 
 

 

   Last question, do you feel that the ATRL community has shifted, in the last 5 years, towards progressivism or conservatism?

 

Where is our community leaning on in issues or regressing backwards on issues?

I think growing up I was pretty centrist due to having a pretty comfortable upbringing where I was kinda sheltered and naive about a lot of problems in my country and the world as a whole. I've gotten more progressive in adulthood, very much in response to things like Brexit and Donald Trump and attacks against trans people.

 

ATRL is much more progressive now than it was even like 4/5 years ago. The ZTP policy kicked out a lot of the crazies. If you go back to any thread that mentioned trans people from back then (or even like any topic about Sam Smith), it was a very different environment to what it's like now.

I'd say I'm center left. My position has not changed. And I think ATRL has certainly gotten way more progressive, although I do think a lot of users here are quick to demonize someone entirely on a single issue.

Me not seeing far left

I'm a millennial, so I grew up during a pretty chill political time. Nothing major happened that really got me into politics when I was a teen. I still voted, mostly because my family and school emphasised that it was important to have a say. I usually just went with whoever my parents supported, which worked out since they lean left.

 

It wasn't until the mid-2010s that I really started paying attention, mainly because anti-immigration views were becoming more common. The far right was gaining traction, and even the Social Democrats were getting tougher on immigration. I didn't agree with that at all and that kind of pushed me to get more involved and nudged me fully to the left of the political spectrum. Since then, though, my views haven't really shifted much, I just feel more solid in what I believe politically.

 

I feel like ATRL has gotten more progressive over time since people get banned faster now with the zero tolerance policy.

I voted progressive but I think it's more nuanced than that. I think we've kicked out and shamed the republicans into silence more than we have done a good job of properly educating them and shifting them to the left. It's a more safe space overall for sure but I'm not sure if especially the older userbase is actually as on board with it as they claim to be.
