ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

Okay this is my brave click for the day, but I'm doing it for Lorde.

The way this album went from 2/10 to 10/10 in a few days.

The definition of a grower.

This is a bit random, but when I hear the intro of Shapeshifter, the spoken word type of thing, I get reminded of Grim Fandango when you're in Rubacava and there's a whole open mic thing. I have no idea why :nicole:

I'm glad you got your ears checked in between, health is an important matter :clap3:

Shapeshifter, Favourite Daughter, Current Affairs, and Clearblue are all AMAZING wow.

I didn't care about Hammer as a single but something clicked today.  I'm not gagging for GRWM or Man of the Year quite yet, but I'm so happy with this overall and if there's one thing a Lorde album is gonna do it's get better with repeat listens :swing:

my top 3 are hammer, current affairs and david

the concept of giving them nothing personal to not get affected... :jonnycat:

And for evеry door you open
There's a room I can't go in
I break in, I still can't find you

:gaycat6::gaycat6::gaycat6:

This is simply her best album. David, Shapeshifter, If She Could See Me Now, Current Affairs, Favorite Daughter…all knockouts.

I am sorry for those that don't get it but trust that it will grow. This is AOTY.

The only correct top 3 are:

if she could see me now

shapeshifter

broken glass

all 100/10

Favorite dauta might be giving song of the year a run for ha money as best song on the album :jonny:

Have you ever heard Grapefruit by Tove?!

I actually hadn't, so I immediately went to listen to it. What a bop!

The crescendo of the beat or whatever and her melodies remind me of George's hand to mouth

it also reminds me of a more recent song but yall would drag if I say who it is

I know I've been quiet on this album over the last few days.  That was intentional.  Whenever Lorde releases a new project, I basically lock myself in my bedroom and listen to nothing else but the album.  Her music just has that effect on me.  It's so intimate and requires good headphones and 100% of my attention span to pick up on every little detail in the lyrics and production - and this album is no exception.  The first thing I have to comment on is the production of this album.  It's phenomenal. :clap3:  Like, maybe one of the most well-produced albums I've ever heard.  Jim E-Stack did that.  There is a perfect balance between industrial, icy synths and "natural," organic sounds like guitars, drums, and bass.  Sonically, this record feels like a mix of all 3 of her previous efforts: the iciness of Pure Heroine, the heightened emotionality of Melodrama, and the stripped-back nature of Solar Power.  Yet, at the same time, it feels like a natural progression for her.  Lyrically, I feel like it's going to take me a couple more listens to pick up on all the little subtleties.  I've always seen Lorde as almost more of a poet than a songwriter, and this album is no exception.  The wordplay is, at times, complex and even absurd, and is not something that will reveal itself fully on first listen.  It's challenging and will require multiple listens, just as all her previous efforts have.  :loud: Early standouts as of now are Hammer, Shapeshifter, and If She Could See Me Now.  There is not a single bad track on the album, though.  Everything is like candy to the ears.  As for the narrative around this album, I've read several comments on here as well as on X and Reddit, and people seem to be pretty divided on it.  It seems like half the listeners really get what she's trying to do here, and the other half finds her recent evolution to be pretentious and off-putting.  If you've been a Lorde fan for awhile, you will know that she doesn't like to play it safe and coddle the listener.  And yeah, she does come across as a bit pretentious this album cycle.  But honestly, who cares? In my opinion, humility is for losers.  I'd way rather listen to an allegedly "delusional" woman's ramblings than the ramblings of some chick whose whole personality is "omg guys, i'm, like, so humble down to earth." No thanks, ma'am.  The more delulu, the better. :gayriahcat2:  The only thing I do sort of agree with the critics on is that it was a little distasteful of her to mention the Pamala Anderson séxtape, given the trauma she experienced after it leaked.  At the same time, we have to be real here and acknowledge that if a Shawn Mendes séxtape were to leak tomorrow without Shawn's consent, literally every ATRLer would go and watch it and be thirsting over him and questioning whether he topped or bottomed.  So it's pretty hypocritical of some of you to act like "omg, Lorde is so evil for doing that."  It's human nature to be curious about that kind of stuff, and you are no better than her despite attempting to portray yourselves as such.

The way everyone has a different top 3 on the album :deadbanana4: Only AOTY!
