I appreciate the historical reference, but let's be clear that neither Joanne nor Lust for Life were universally acclaimed (by fans, or critics), either upon release, or now  

I agree that I remember people being disillusioned with "Green Light" and "Liability"... though Melodrama did feel more eventful upon release. But that was following the it girl phenomenon of Pure Heroine, so I don't think we should ever expect that level of commotion from her again 

 

EDIT: I've also never heard those Ed Sheeran or Imagine Dragons albums, and I hope to keep it that way  the grammys represent who is being commercially pushed in the music industry, more than anything 

i'd be throwing ass to this and suddenly a line or a melodic choice would break my heart, oh lord(e) you musical genius

Melodrama was nominated for AOTY that year so it's not like these albums were considered better, probably more pop-ish

Shapeshifter is probably my favourite on the album - the "tonight I just wanna fall" refrain with the synths coming in always makes me emotional
