ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

A grown *** ah-ah, ah-ah

Man's a grown ***, ah-ah

not virgin coming out on a hot weekend in the uk. i just wanna keep going back to my beloved solar power

need to be a virgin

Looks to be ~15M stream debut with all songs charting in US and NZ top 200 (all tracks went top 40 in New Zealand and she almost got everything top 80 in the US) :clap3:

Also impressed by how cohesive the album is. Ik using the same sounds/synths/etc. throughout was important to her, but I make so many connections throughout while listening

I think some of my initial excitement and recency bias is wearing off and I don't find this to be aaaaaas amazing tbqh, but it's such a solid pop album. The lyrical focus is the best part, like she did THAT with a big, fat pen :jonnycat:

This album is a grower. Broken Glass is such an interesting song lyrically.

I think there are many parallels in producrion, songwriting and the tracklisting to Pure Heroine, more than Melodrama.

Ngl, this album weirds me out, but that means it's successful in what she meant to achieve. I'm apprehensive of playing it in a glowing radioactive matter way.

listened again with an empty mind acting like i haven't heard the singles before AND,

i realized what an EASY LISTEN this album is, like it truly flows perfectly from start to finish without boring you a bit & it still says everything it needs to say and feels complete with ZERO skips :jonny2:

truly AOTY

Why did @halcyonday dislike this? Not trying to expose, just genuinely confused ddd

But I totally agree with you on both parts. I wasn't in love with any of the singles, but they've grown on me over time and esp in the full album listen!

Even tho I'd add a good 9-10 minutes to the album tbh, it's still so concise, compact and makes for a really easy (and good!) listen

Someone start a pregnancy scare TikTok trend to get Clearblue viral

Clearblue is lowkey a highlight and no other pop star would dare to make a song like that, sonically but especially lyrically

check their posting history bestie

I`m listening nonstop, even took a day off yesterday to celebrate the day of the Lorde, and I am still unable to rank the songs. Not a single track deserves to be placed last and many could be #1. First I thought that "Clearblue" is an obvious #11, but then I realized its immense beauty and intimacy. Therefore, I will only share 5 songs which I currently think are the best on "Virgin":

Shapeshifter (career highlight)

GRWM

Favourite Daughter

Hammer

Broken Glass (obvious hit single imho)

But then there are also Man Of The Year, Current Affairs or If She Could See Me Now. What another masterpiece!

Finally had time to sit with the album and I am loving it.

My favs (of the new tracks) are: If She Could See Me Now, Current Affairs, Shapeshifter

I also love all the singles soo much

Wait, this is my top 3 too, great minds think alike :clap3:

Been saving my first listen for when I get on the plane for my beach vacation and I'm 2 hours away from takeoff :jonnycat: I really think this could be my AOTY

After 1st listen.

Already Virgin > Solar Power

Fave ones:

Hammer

What Was That

Shapeshifter

GRWM

Broken Glass

If She Could See Me Now

I already thought this was her best album... but the more I listen to the album (260 scrobbles so far) the more I feel convinced that that is true.
