Aly & AJ - 'Silver Deliverer'

The amount of people in this thread trying to run the moral olympics all because they aren't fans of their recent releases... it's fine to have an opinion but say you don't like it and go listen to their previous releases that fit your pallets. Idk... :ryan2:

  • Yes, the AJ account posted a Dropbox link to the masters instead of a link to their store when pre-orders went up.   A stunning end to this mismanaged era.

I'm not sure how I feel about this album — it just feels kind of meh.   My main issue is how flat the percussion sounds, I wish it had a bit more punch. Also, the constant use of the pedal s

Whatever sound "The Distance" was is the sound they should be striving for. That song is absolutely stunning.

I want more songs like Paradise too. So beautiful

Lovin the description of their new album. Im a californian lover and love how much of their music is influenced by it :gaycat4:
is the album pop rock? If it is im gonna be real happy. I like the title. Feels very moonlight :gaycat2:

From the email: "Silver Deliverer, the new album from Aly & AJ, burst into life in Topanga Canyon, California as a collaboration between the band Aly & AJ and the producer Jonathan Wilson. Recorded with analog methods and tracked with vocals and live band together at the same time, in the same room, the recordings are an organic document of what it feels like to be female recording artists in 2025 forging a path toward the spiritual and healing powers of rock music.

This album is a look into the souls of Aly & AJ. It's also a portrait of motherhood: Aly gave birth one week into the cutting of the album. She spent one week at home and then finished the last three weeks of recording with her newly born son in her arms. And the songs were a link to the sounds that permeated her own childhood: the west coast melodies and harmonies of The Beach Boys.

It all makes for a terribly exciting soundscape, full of ripping electric guitar surging through vintage tube amps, live drums carefully tuned and run through impeccable outboard preamps and compressors, and dozens of exotic instruments played by an all star lineup of session musicians.

Aly & AJ, real life sisters, have that family harmony that stops listeners in their tracks. This is rock music for those who love the Laurel Canyon sound, the tradition of west coast harmony, the lure of the ocean and the pull of the hills and canyons filled with dandelions and eucalyptus trees. This is rock music for wistful lovers, new mothers, and those who believe in divine intervention. And for listeners looking for a bit of hope and a deliverer in their own life.

Aly & AJ's album went straight from the Five Star Studios in Topanga Canyon cutting room into Jonathan Wilson's Cadac G console made in '75 for Pye Studio in London, and was tracked with vocals and live band together at the same time, in the same room, in part to tape but always with the most analogue signal path available. It's a melodic testament to the singular power of sisterhood, and the fabric of spending a career on the road traveling from town to town: this is the most intimate look into the Aly & AJ many have come to love over the past 20 years."

Lemme go extra hard for this album since they're being attacked for no reason. Arrogant and stubborn because they are making the music they want to? :rip: it's getting very parasocial in here

Exactly! I've genuinely never seen anything like it. Soooooo weird and uncalled for. The album is fantastic (I've heard 8/11 tracks) and if people don't get it it's honestly a shame!

For real. At this point it's clear they're not going to make the type of music gays want them to make. Just get over it and move on, there's a billion artists out there go listen to something that fits your tastes. I get not vibing with their stuff (and no one is forcing you to like it), but the constant whining in every thread is getting tiring.

You can complain on the internet all you want and guess what? They're still going to do whatever the hell they want

On a completely different note, I'm thinking of grabbing the vinyl as they always deliver high quality vinyl (both when it comes to sound and packaging) but that international shipping cost is rough lol. Not sure if I can justify it.

An album announcement that doesn't involve waiting over 4 months until release? I'm looking forward to it.

The physical copies look really good, they always deliver good quality when it comes to their vinyl pressings / packaging. I'm tempted to purchase the Special Edition, it'd look really good next to my "A Touch of the Beat... (Special Edition)" vinyl.

Listening to their last album for the first time rn bc all the lashings in here had me intrigued but... lmfaoooo atrl really falls into absolute meltdown mode when there's an acoustic guitar and real drums on a song because what do you mean people hate that album and are saying theyre arrogant for not making bussybop synthpop that their fans demand!!!11!1, it's actually a gorgeously mellow album :deadbanana2:

I've warmed up to the cover after seeing the complete package. Excited this is coming so soon and their vinyl quality is always so good.

The cover is growing on me too after seeing it on the vinyl. This rollout is so strange, though. Wasn't there going to be a new song released this week? I assume that's coming Friday, but why not drop the preorders then? I think a lot went on behind the scenes to affect the rollout. Feels like preorders were originally meant to come out alongside WIFL but didn't for whatever reason.

Look, A Touch of the Beat was an undeniable masterpiece and I too would prefer that sound personally (and their more electro-pop sound just before), but to be frank I'm happy they're at least CONSISTENTLY putting out new music and we aren't waiting ten years between projects.

The rollout is definitely strange but hey, again, just happy they're happy/busy. They'll try something else sound-wise eventually, I'm sure.

Stan culture like that has been going that way for the past 5-10 years, I've noticed. It's getting bad in every realm, whether it's music or TV like people get unhinged. I don't remember the 2000s and 2010s being quuiiite this wild.

Yes. Still happening. Should be out overseas in the morning.

If it's what I think it is, it will be a very strange song to launch a pre-order with but everything about this era is strange lol.

Whew they're really making MUSIC :clap3:

Personally I like "real drums" and "acoustic guitar" just fine. I think chalking any sort of "criticism" up to "well you just don't like real music u shallow gays!!!!!!!1!1" is a corny one-dimensional boomer response. For instance, I'm a massive fan of Father John Misty, Aldous Harding, Kevin Atwater who make nothing close to upbeat or bussypop music. it's not the genre itself that's the problem. It's the sister's approach to it and it's simply not clicking with people.
