Do you know how to be still?

Featured Replies

I always notice that on my days off, after I've done everything I need to do, I can't be still. I always have to be doing something in order to feel productive. If not, I feel like I'm wasting my time. Yesterday I took care of everything, so I have nothing to do today. Yet I find myself wishing I had left some stuff on my list unchecked just so that I could have something to occupy my time with today.

It's so strange. I know I've nothing left to do today, no pending tasks, yet I still feel unproductive. Over the years I tried so many things. I usually go out and walk my dog (I walk him in the mornings as well), I try cleaning my room (I mean a deep clean: dusting everything, cleaning windows and mirrors, vacuming almost everything, etc), I also love graphic design (I make posters, single/alt album covers, mostly Justin stuff :deadbanana2:, all for fun and for myself), etc. Anyway, it helps for a while but I always end up feeling the same.

Do you ever feel like this? What do you do to take care of it?

Edit: maybe "still" wasn't the best word to use...  Unoccupied? Is that better?

Nope, doing nothing and being alone with my thoughts is the biggest jumpscare. I was just thinking that I should challenge myself to disconnect from the internet for a few days and try to become comfortable with doing nothing. idk the thought of just sitting there and... existing is weird to me

My boyfriend can't sit still to save his life. Like, even if we're watching a movie, he'll sometimes have me pause so he can pace for a little bit. He always feels like he should be doing something instead of just relaxing.

as a professional bed-rotter i can't say i suffer from this phenomenon but i know several friends who do!

my suggestion is to definitely make sure ur relaxing and recharging, but maybe take up a fun hobby to occupy ur time while ur chilling, like crochet, word searches, etc. something to stimulate ur brain.

Lemme try that. The good people at USA Today and NY Times always have some word games on their site

Yeah I always decompress with couch and movies, and I put my phone in another room or else it distracts me. Tiktok brains are too used to stimulation to be able to relax I fear

stop looking at productivity as only things like cleaning or i dont know what other tasks you mean but im assuming its other boring but necessary things like appointments, taking time to enjoy your interests is productive too you need to recognize the value of that then its easy to sit still

Doesn't matter what I'm doing I have to either sway side to side/back And forth or bounce my leg when I'm sitting down

Yes I know how, and I do it incredibly well. It's my favourite thing to do.
