the stuff i read most consistently is books about music (reading 1984, the year pop went queer by ian wade atm), i plough thru that stuff.

 

i used to read a lot of classic fiction but i fear i got to the end of old stuff that i like and it's harder to find newer books i really enjoy (smaller pool and also i just don't pay enough attention to reviews and stuff)

Yeah. Timeless Classics is mostly about 19th-century classics so I could collect the ones that I don't have like Animal Farm and 1984. I'm also thinking of getting A Little Princess from Barnes & Noble, Rebecca, and The Little Prince in fancy editions to match perfectly in my library. My parents have other classics but with red covers that also look aesthetically pleasing to my collection

I read a bit but generally not as much as I should / could / would like to, for a couple of reasons. That said, if reading fan fiction counts as "reading books" then I read a **** ton. Personally, I tend to think of fan fiction as seperate from "books" so…
 

I'm mostly interested in reading gay books but the majority (in my library apps, at least) are either about death, about teenagers, trashy novellas, or garbage written by straight women; it's quite the chore to filter through all of that to find things that really appeal to me.
 

I also enjoy fantasy, but that's generally written as franchises and it's such a commitment to engage with a whole new world like that so I never bother. That's a big reason why I've been so into fan fiction; it's far easier to spend more time in a familiar story than it is to learn a whole new fantasy work. Plus the ease of access and abundance of gay material were real advantages as well. But it's gotten pretty stale and less appealing to me lately. So I've been trying to get back in the habit of reading real books.

 

I also kinda have this problem where I read too fast. I can get through a well paced and engaging book in an afternoon. Even something that takes a bit more time will only take a few days. And for whatever reason, I tend to put off reading because of this. It's like I don't want to become invested in a story that I'll be done with in five hours and never engage with again.

 

 

 

On a semi-related note, I just saw a viral tweet about how "they don't make books for [straight] men anymore" and that was when I had to close the app for the day.

I go through phases where I'll read a few books back to back and then won't read at all for a couple months. I'd say I average about 7-8 books a year when it comes to reading for pleasure. I wish I read more though. Gotta get my screen time down

Oh my god, yes. I practically have a library's worth of books. I'm not a particularly fast reader, so it takes me a while to finish a book. I've so far finished 5 books this years.

I do read occasionally. Mostly horror.

very rarely. i usually read when i become obsessed with a topic. the last time it happened it was ancient greece. i read/listened to the odyssey, tso achilles, circe etc.

and before that it was dysopias. 1984, fahrenheit 451, the road, the handmaids tale, etc

 

Got back into reading during the pandemic, then 2 years ago I bought a Kindle Oasis and that really did the trick  been bringing it to work every day to read during break time. Mostly I read non-fiction though, for work-related purposes 

The last book I read was the Mariah Carey one which was about two years ago

I'll go through phases where I'll read a ton of books and then ignore reading for the rest of the year. I want to be more consistent with reading. I like reading nonfiction, self-help books regarding society and the workings of it. My favorite is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking.

I got an e-book as a gift 6 years ago and I love it. I prefer it to paper books tbh, even if I miss the ability to just pick a random page of an old book on my shelf and read it.
