Scrapped album titles

Featured Replies

Basically title. What are albums that originally had another name, but then were scrapped for the released name. Here are Madonna's from the top of head.

Madonna: Originally going to be named Lucky Star. There's even a scrapped album cover floating around on the internet. The released photoshoot is much superior, but I prefer the name Lucky Star.

True Blue: Originally titled after the lead single Live To Tell. Madonna herself said this in an interview early 1986. Billboard magazine also reported the album title in one of their magazines, months before the album came out.

The Immaculate Collection: Originally titled Ultra Madonna. Thankfully this was scrapped, it sounds so ugly.

Erotica: Originally titled Girlie Show, which is a 1941 painting of a topless woman on stage. Not sure how true this is, I think a scrapped tracklist of the album has the title on top of the paper in her handwriting. The tour was later named after the painting.

Ray of Light: Originally titled Mantra. There was another title too but I forgot. I think it's Sultra?

GHV2: Originally titled The Second Coming. This would've been perfect. It sounds iconic, and would've also been another clever religious pun like The Immaculate Collection. GHV2 is so boring.

Hard Candy: Originally going to be titled "Give It 2 Me" with a boxing themed packaging (hence her outfit on the album cover). It was changed due to the Timbaland song being released around the same time. She then wanted "Candy Shop" - which was again changed because of the 50 Cent song.

I still want to hear this album. I remember there was another Max Martin-produced song on the first tracklisting that featured Nicki Minaj. I wonder who that went to?

OT: Virtuoso Intellect :alexz:Beyonce recorded an entire dance album after B'Day in 07/08 that evolved into I Am... Sasha Fierce. There is a registered song called "Fascination" written with Beyoncé's cousin Angie and the team behind Sol-Angel & The Hadley St. Dreams. Wouldn't be surprised if it was made for this. She primarily worked with British producers the Freemasons, and I wouldn't be surprised if "Why Don't You Love Me" and "Control" (unreleased) were also for this project.

She loved their "Green Light" (Remix) and just kept working with them.

As long as she goes for anything up to when she met Beef Stroganoff, that would be dope. Rick Nowels, Justin Parker, Emile Haynie, Dan Heath, Jeff Bhasker, and The Nexus. No Jack. :coffee2:

Wasn't Madonna's "Music" originally titled "Veronica Electronica"?

I honestly don't hate that name. :-*

Love Goes was pretty much the same album but the Max Martin & Nicki tracks scrapped and some other tracks just simply retitled, maybe Sam might release them for vault tracks once the 10th anniversary edition hits.

most recent example I'm thinking of is So Close to What once being Star Child

Bionic was rumored to be titled Light & Darkness when it was supposed to be a fully electronic album
