Why does Cher get ignored?

Featured Replies

I'm watching the Farewell Tour for the first time in years, and it really was so innovative at the time with the cirque du soleil integration into a rock pop concert. The show was pretty over the top and was one of the top grossing for years. Plus she was only about Madonna's age from MDNA as the time.

However, whenever we talk pop tours, it seems to be completely ignored and forgotten. Why is that? Why is there oversight when it comes to Cher and what she's contributed to the live pop show landscape?

She's been performing the exact same show with the exact same choreography and even setlist for the most part for decades now.

She has like 3 albums that are good and 50 that are terrible so there's that.

But she's still a living legend and almost universally beloved so it doesn't really matter.

Her albums aren't as good as the other Diva's I fear.

Aren't her only three songs "Believe," "Gypsy's, Tramps, & Thieves," and "If I Could Turn Back Time?" :lakitu:

Cher doesn't get ignored. She just debuted 60 years ago. There's only a handful of people from back then whose discographies are still discussed and they were much much bigger music acts. Cher's impact was her ability to successfully span genres and mediums, not dominating a single one.

My generation doesn't even know the Beatles outside of a couple songs and the Swifties delusions about their favs popularity are living proof that even the 80s and 90s are completely out of cultural memory. If I wasn't gay the only cher projects I would know are Burlesque and Believe.:rip: The people who know Cher give her the respect she deserves.

Just 20 great songs off top of my head

Sadly she's aged out of radio play and music is so segmented in the streaming era that the algorithm may not pick her up unless you've saved some of her past songs.

Cher is a respected legend. Anybody who follows pop music like Stan's know who she is and her contribution to pop culture and music. I don't believe at all that she is ignored. Anybody who follows pop culture will always give her the flowers she deserves.

Bang Bang is literally one of the most popular songs of all time. How have you not heard that?

the voice effects are so heavy I don't what's real and what's not.

Also I lost interest when every tour became her last "retirement" tour.  Eventually the cow runs dry. :fan:

Tbh I don't think I've heard anything she's released after Believe, except a snippet of Woman's World once :skull: I love her classic hits but her more recent discography doesn't seem like it's worth getting into imho. She's a legend though :hughard:

She hates Jessie James.

Plus the never ending fairwell tour that went on 20 years.

She's always received her flowers for her tours. You just have to talk up the Gen X gays to know it. Apart from that, her voice is not very pleasant and only worked in her favor on occasion depending on the context of the song. She's even said it herself that she doesn't like her voice. This is why she invented auto tune to make a comeback.

I dont think many people realize Bang Bang was originally sang by Cher (written by Sonny) since most people know the Nancy Sinatra's cover of the song from the same year
