Personally I'm totally Pro-Palestine, and got into a few discussions here and there a few times. I wouldn't say I totally agree with the point of view of some mods about the Gaza situation, but I won't get into emotionally driven arguments because of that, like, I've got better things to do with my life, and all of that negative energy should be directed to the real nazis in power instead

State of Grace's ban is a loss for the forum, even if he requested it himself. He's always had pretty reasonable takes, both regarding politics and the pop culture. I believe that Palestinian members (and he is, as far as I recall, Palestinian) deserve to be cut some slack, considering the fact that their people are being killed and their homeland is being demolished. Nobody wants to be called names, but their behaviour is understandable. If, let's say, a Ukrainian member decided to lash out at me because I'm Russian, even though I've wanted to see Putin's head on a pike for more than a decade now and have done my best to give the government as little as possible, I wouldn't hold it against them. Helplessness, especially when it comes to political events, is a pervasive feeling. It doesn't completely excuse their infractions, but I don't know if I'd be able to keep my cool under similar circumstances.

 

Having said that, I have to admit that I find the Civics section to be a toxic environment. As a progressive person myself, I have to give the side-eye to certain progressive consensuses there. Some people are too eager to see Ukraine surrender because they never experienced what it feels like to live as a queer person in Russia/under Russian occupation, for example, and there's too much country-simping for my anti-statist ass. A lot of nuance is missing. I'd go somewhere else if I wanted to discuss politics seriously, though I'd rather do it in a queer-dominated space. More fresh blood and voices could improve the situation, but for some reason, such fresh blood almost always smells of dupery.

It's incredibly sad to witness how some of the loudest pro-Palestinian voices on this forum got the boot over relatively petty behavior. Users on here tend to get banned for far worse.

Folks here are cheering it on too, many of the most virulent Islamophobic, Xenophobic, liberal trash (overwhelmingly Europeans might I add), and yes *ZIONIST* users here… If the site wants an echo chamber, they're doing a great job of creating it

Like, I'm not sure if he was already over this, and wanted to end it all once and for all on this site, given how you can tell he was affected by stuff on this site, or if he just went into extra emotional mode with no real plan in sight, just to defend someone who was banned for defying an admin 

It's really not lost on me how through a quick cursory look at the Isntreal/Palestine megathread and the Russia/Ukraine megathread especially the statements from moderation staff opening both threads (the one about the Palestine thread in light of the admin's recent comments is especially laughable when they're just straight up regurgitating US media narratives) is basically a perfect reflection of where the West's fickle commitment to pro-Palestine movement at large lies… the fact that the overwhelming majority of liberals on this site get absolutely mad at the mere mention that Harris was objectively complicit in the Gaza genocide and thus did not deserve support and I'm supposed to believe these people support a "free Palestine?"
 

These very same users, upvoting the admin, are consistently the ones complaining about "being unable to participate in civics" or "groupthink" because their (objectively terrible genocide apologist) views are consistently clocked and they don't like that and want an echo chamber a la r/50501 or r/politics.They are the actual immature ones, so I guess kudos to admin for getting rid of more *PALESTINIAN AND ARAB* voices in this time… like congrats I guess…

Agree with everything until the last couple sentences. I don't think I've encountered more nuance than I have here… for how *SMALL* this forum is, it's got a surprisingly active political discourse that showcases the left vs liberal divide accurately…

Geopolitics does have a part of our personal lives. But it's blatantly obvious that people on here seem to not care. Just toss the Civics section altogether since the common excuse is that this is a pop culture forum first and foremost. But with that in motion, I wouldn't expect any topics regarding politics or the social climate in any degree to be posted.

I'm yet to find out how any this has any correlation to my post, in which I was just wondering the reasons as to why State Of Grace wanted to get banned, but since you took your time on writing this let me show some of my perspective.

 

Getting heated up right now in April 2025 in discussions of the Kamala/genocide/liberals will get us nowhere.

Kamala did not deserve the vote of the Palestine supporters (for obvious reasons)? True

Trump should have lost the elections? Also true

Antagonizing on literally anyone just for those topics is not worth it at this point, and also you shouldn't be assuming stuff and putting labels on people just because they didn't agree with you on certain stuff, or just because they didn't say the right sentence you wanted them to say.

 

I totally disagree with many users on this site because of their perspective about the Gaza situation, but like I said before, I won't be wasting my time into arguing with strangers about technicalisms. I just ignore those posts, I give my opinion sometimes, and that's it. I have dragged Kamala at many chances for her support of the genocide in Gaza, and I have never felt like I was being 'censored' or in an 'unsafe' space. Of course there would be some dislikes and nasty replies sometimes, but this is a pop forum with people from all over the world, I don't take it personally, nor let stuff like that handle my emotions.

I would like to throw in my support for the return of SYG on a regular basis

- It would allow users to blow off some of the steam built up in the civics section and other topics where emotions run high

- If the hive and the little monsters aren't gonna make peace then let's at least have some proper fun out of it instead of thie boring spotify stats comparisons

- There is, I think we can all agree, a simple joy in seeing a random pop girl getting called a prostitute.
