Pro-Palestinian activists confront Bernie Sanders at his rally
There hasn't been a left in the US for the longest time and a lot of that has to do with people making concessions for so long… and allowing what was left of the left post cointelpro/decimation of unions to shift further to the right

Ummm where in my post did I say that. I said very clearly the degree to which people compromise on issues like this depends on how it personally affects them. If you want to take that as an accusation, then wear the shoe. but let's talk about your hypothetical Republican candidate. You're implying you wouldn't support them because of their views of homosexuality and the CRA even though they support the abolition of Israel but you're just doing the inverse in reality because you decided the support of Israel wasn't a dealbreaker for you. You certainly HAVE to seriously interrogate yourself as to why you've made that compromise and why you couldn't do so if the inverse were true, especially if you do care about these issues (as I DO believe you DO!). Why are Palestinians the acceptable demographic sacrifice to continue to make to get what you want domestically??? (especially after their ongoing holocaust, funded partly by bernie who is still a Zionist at the end of the day.) what demographic would be the redline for you to not make this compromise? It's just a thing we all have to question, and it's why I'm done supporting any Zionist. I'm not making a personal dig at you or your character, I'm just questioning your logic. We all matter to differing degrees to change this system…

You can't stand "against genocide" if you still support the existence of the state perpetrating it. I hope that that's what eventually is understood as a result of this discourse.

This is really "defund the police" discourse all over again essentially. (Or "universal healthcare" vs "Medicare for all" messaging) And it's kind of concerning to see so many "progressives" not realize they've shifted to the right in how they stand on this topic of activist pressure, policy demands ("permanent arms embargo to Israel" as opposed to Bernie's "not another nickel to Netanyahu"), and centering the activists to move the Overton window back to the left. Now is not the time for milquetoast liberalism/"progressivism"

This kind of reductionist understanding of what these activists are doing to pressure the "most left" politician in the US Senate in order to remind them of where they stand is unfortunate to see on a site with so many lgbtq members. How many prides have y'all been to where they say "black trans women started pride" and honor Marsha p Johnson and put that into perspective into how "appeased" they were when starting and continuing a very necessary movement. This isn't about "appeasement" this is about "demanding" what we deserve from our representatives who are ALL, as much as they themselves will personally claim to not be, beholden to power and the interests of the most powerful.

You wouldn't be making these kinds of compromises if hypothetically a demographic closer to home for you was treated as brutally and defended in this manner. I truly think the degree to which folks can claim that they don't compromise via voting/supporting their choice politician because they're not endorsing all their candidate's positions is dependent on how removed from the situation they are. It's why the Arab community overwhelmingly decided "hell no" to Harris with no difficult thought because why the **** should they have supported her. And bernie is digging himself a bigger hole here with this same coalition, which he needs to win (whatever the **** he's running for or trying to do with these pep rallies) btw. You're choosing a same allegedly "practical," "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" kind of defense of bernie that I've heard sanders' opponents repeat ad nauseum when confronting his supporters' dissatisfaction with their liberal/centrist candidates. You're of course free to do what you want, but I just don't see this mentality helpful to the cause either. It's the exact kind of complacency the US "left" needs to leave behind if they expect to ever wake up the masses of nonvoters in this country to join their coalition.

Ok thank you for explaining better the absurdity of the "two-state solution" aka the status quo for Zionists to pretend that they aren't just murdering kids and stealing more land

See I personally genuinely don't think that Palestinians will ever achieve their liberation and justice against the Zionists because the western liberal "left" ever helped them, in the same way that all decolonial struggles succeeded because of the willpower of the colonized. "Perfectly rational left-liberals" with these kind of blind spots and material privilege (benefitting from this genocide living in the West) and material support for this genocide (taxpayers/Harris-trump voters) because they don't like the way the movement demands things just shows they were never there to support the cause. The same was said about anti-war activists in the 60s in the Vietnam war, radical gay/feminists of the 60s etc. and they were the ones who ACTUALLY created change.

oh… a two state "solution" is atrocious. the morally defensible solution is a one-state solution for a secular state. What do you think, "Free Palestine from the river to the sea" means? "Israel" has proven that there cannot be a "two-state solution" because it continually dispossesses Palestinians of their land, ethnic cleanses them to maintain an artificial "jewish majority" state, and refuses to allow a right of return for the millions of Palestinians outside of either "israel"/Palestinian territories who were kicked out in previous campaigns of ethnic cleansing going back to the Nakba. Zionism, and thus the existence of "Israel," must end.

Was the backlash Taylor got for blocking Billie & Charli overdone or was it fair?
Literally who cares. Billie's album ended up being more memorable and charli's received more critical acclaim/cultural impact than McDonald's weeks at number one, gifted by her high cholesterol addicted fans

What is your favorite Tiny Desk performance ever?
these are the ones off the top of my head but honestly is there really a "not good" tiny desk concert? The format really lends itself to just incredible performances every time and brings out the best in so many artists. I love them all. There's a couple in this thread I haven't seen yet so imma bookmark them for later

Ask bernie if he believes in a "two-state solution" and then you'll see what an "amazing voice" he is…

Abolitionists in the 1800s were seen as radical and expecting them to abolish slavery was equally seen as delusional. History is chock-full with progressive, "radical" actors demanding the most and moving the course of history forward. It is not the compromisers, who throw their hands up and say "well this the best we got," who are the ones remembered for creating change. We are 18 months into the most documented, live-streamed genocide in history. This is a very serious issue that "left" politicians like Bernie who continue to contain the US leftwing outrage against Zionism/the Israeli terrorist state are deliberately downplaying. He deserves to continuously be called out for this especially if he is the leader his supporters claim he is.

I already discussed this with you in the election thread but everything you're saying here reads as you eventually manufacturing (yet again) your own consent to compromise on the issue of genocide in service for your "greater good." This has to be redline for the "progressive left" if they *actually* want to be progressive.

He's not, he's a jewish Zionist with history as a settler in the colony and funding that terrorist colony for decades prior to 2023. A couple of grandstanding positions in the senate recently do not erase the multiple times he's sent money to fund the decades long Palestinian genocide
