It's fine but shouldn't have been the lead single. The Boy Is Mine was right there

I got tired of it after a month, but I've recently been going back to it and it's actually aging well

It's ok, but the loose Vogue interpolation + Straight Up (tee hee) carbon copying of Paula Godul's most iconic music video makes it feel less her and kind of uninspired.

Mid song

They wanted an easy #1 because of the drama and they got it

But after listening to the album it feels like a travesty. There are a lot of hits there. And the right choice would have elevated the era.

i got really annoyed with it when it came out and there are about 8 better songs on eternal sunshine but no actually given a bit of time and perspective its a bop

It's better in context of the album, but it shouldn't have been the lead. Would be fine as an album track. The hate was just exacerbated by the homewrecking scandal at the time and some certain stans acting in obvious bad faith.

Awful, and it sticks out like a sore thumb within the album imo. I deleted it, and the album flows so much better.

If she was a newbie, it'd be ok but considering she had tracks on Dangerous Woman that took this style of dance pop & put a modern twist on it (Knew Better/Forever Boy), it felt like a huge regression. It's like she had less of an identity going into her 7th album than she did going into her 3rd. That makes it a terrible single

Thinking back to how horrible public perception of her was last year, it's the only option that made sense. It's an inoffensive dance-pop song that address the controversies in a non-specific way.

Now cvntiana circa 2016-2019 would've released TBIM as a single just to be messy :gaycat2:

It's not bad but she has all 10/10 lead singles and Yes, And? is a 7/10 for me. It also sticks out like a sore thumb on the album.

and this is my biggest issue with Eternal Sunshine as a whole :rip: it's ironic that the critics called Positions a regression when it was her most authentic album, and a natural evolution to her sound/artistry. Eternal Sunshine is a fine pop album but an underwhelming Ariana one (if that makes sense).

All this to say, 'yes, and' served its purpose in that it was a fire-starter and palette cleanser for AG7. It did its job in that regard and she bagged a #1 out of it (even if it is one of her weaker ones), which paved the way for WCBF to smash.

she has like 20+ better songs. the expectations were high because she usually delivers. the song received some criticism but it was mainly the message. TBIM would've had the same backlash or probably worse.
