I was ready to drag this, but I kinda like this? The lyrics are ... not good, but that's par of the course with Marina non. But she sounds more like herself here, and by that I mean that Butterfly has some of that lovely messiness of her first album. I should be irritated by all the needless quirks and yet I'm charmed. Cautiously optimistic for the album.

Lyrically, sonically, melodically, vocally just the same old again.

I liked L+F and ADIAML...

This is mid, at best. This is really the first time I haven't liked a new Marina track. The lyrics just are not that good. The chorus could maybe work, but maybe with different verses. There are better ways to go about a self empowerment theme... This just feels really juvenile. Hoping the album is better than this

The chorus is definitely going to be polarising, but I'm enjoying it. It kinda sounds like a more danceable version of Teen Idle.

Mama, this is juvenile, from the kids bop vocals in the chorus, the "I'm such a bad b" ass lyrics. 

 

I was the biggest diamond a decade ago, her decline has to be studied 

 

What saves the song is her beautiful vocal chords, but even that is triggering since she polishes them way too much, everything sounds sterile, that's how I describe most of her music post-Froot; sterile. 

The way I jumped at the 5 year old voice on the chorus...the song is fine I guess? Her vocals are quite shaky and it sounds like she's struggling on those high notes. I can't see myself coming back to this

 

Marina chica, this was the perfect path to follow...

This is better than I expected tbh 

For those people who don't follow Marina like that, she was very sick for the past few years. She has stated that she is now in recovery and feeling better. That being said, I think this song in particular is her reclaiming her energy (quite literally as she was fatigued for years). Let's not place so much blame on the lyrics not being up to par with some of her deeper cuts. She is quite capable, even on her last album, to deliver great lyrics. I am personally enjoying this song as a return to form for her and welcoming her back to music. Let's not pre-judge the entire era/album before it's taken off. I would also like to say, this SLAPS in the car!

This song is so frustrating because it just needs one more pass to be a real bop. The pitched refrain would really work better if she had saved it for the end of the song as she ramped up the production. I'm still hopeful for the record, though, as one of the few very L+F stans on ATRL.

It's like trying to make "fetch" happen.

I like the song, but she didn't bring anything new to her sound, despite the pitched refrain that adds some energy to it

I personally also loved L+F and think the album aged very well. I also agree with you on the production, maybe they will release a remix or another version. The second half the song works better but the first part does seem a little flat. The more I listen to it though, the more I like it!
