Yes that's what Kpop has been doing. Their might be a very few exceptions but Idols groups are just concepts made up by people like MHJ, JYP etc. and idols are the dolls that have to fit in that concept. That's why we got a lot of comebacks instead of waiting 2-3 years. If I want personal stories I got to artists with a songwriting talent or an artistic vision. And with this album Lisa has shown us that this is what we are gonna get from her. 
but it's not just Kpop. Not every singer out there has an artistic side. Some just want to sing and dance.

Meghan Trainer actually did have pretty decent album sales in the past

 

Tones & I is also confusing as an artist. Clearly not a pop girl and even the name sounds more like a band

I think it has more to do with Rose still with Blacklabel while Lisa and Jennie are independent. They prob have better distribution and know a trick or 2 to make international sales counted for the US
