The only reason I've been more active here lately, after being mostly inactive for 1.5 year, is what appears to be a renewed interest in the Hybe x NJ scandal in this thread. I've been rather invested and I've been following the situation attentively, but I don't want to be a nuisance posting related content nobody is interested in.

I think the general, more recent apathy toward Kpop and Kpop releases and the exhaustion following the recycled negative news cycle for over a year now, also contributes to the lesser activity in this thread, the increased chatter about NJ maybe stands out more. NJ was always liked here, but I can sense there is some extra support for them and what's happening to them as of late, and I'm glad.

Honestly, so many vocals have been live (Aespa, NMIXX, etc.) that I have seen and I was gagged.

I think just about everyone in here has made it clear that we don't blame HYBE groups nor hate them, but we absolutely loathe HYBE. HYBE stans have violated K-pop's golden rule - hate the company that your fave debuted in. And we are all experiencing hell for their sins.

There's certain things you don't joke about imo. What happened with NewJeans is really tragic, and it was entirely preventable if HYBE didn't pay the media and courts. HYBE's roster of idols are mostly innocent here. HYBE's upper management deserves the electric chair. Both can be true. NewJeans and Min Heejin did absolutely nothing wrong here. It's very very very strange that all these female boy group stans are siding with a COMPANY that is undeniably guilty and not with the TALENT. Idols are not a product and there's a large chunk of users who stan idols who have nothing more to offer beyond being a product celebrating horrible things happening to NewJeans. There's something extremely dark sided about all of this discourse

Honestly, I hope this thread starts learning from that because it is a good comparison. An idol is being relentlessly bullied for being a human being who wants to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Anyone that would speak down on them is garbage.

As someone who stanned Goo Hara and followed Sulli pre-debut, it drives me crazy that we just continue this cycle instead of learning from the past.

I miss Astro who knows when we'll get another comeback. I am hoping we get some group activities next year for the 10th anniversary even though eunwoo is in the army and won't be able to join.

HYBE is a very powerful organization, I think like we have never seen before in Kpop. They also operate differently from what we are used to with the likes of SM or YG. They are less like a strictly music company producing content and more like a wannabe chaebol company constantly expanding in several directions with ties everywhere, investing significant resources in media control, social media activity, legal counsel, and even government lobbying. This needs to be highlighted more, and the dispute with NJ is a good example of it.
