Yes it was used in court in the Newjeans lawsuit, but the judge ignored it. Judges prefer forming their own opinion and tend to ignore outside noise. The police investigation Min Heein VS Hybe has little evidentiary value in the Newjeans vs Ador lawsuit in which Min heejin isn't even the defendant, and is not a binding judgment the judge has to consider. It should matter, but legally it doesn't. It might still be used in the Shareholder lawsuit and countersuit, since it's the same case.

 

The Newjeans trial was done sloppily too tbh, only 1 real court hearing to present arguments and rebuttals, vs 3-4 for other lawsuits.

Once off a trainee contract, SM don't currently own Taeyeon -- they essentially work for her now.  So it comes down to how much of her money is Taeyeon willing to risk to increase her own profits plus those quality of life consideration.  Now, someone at SM should be continuously presenting her with proposals and demos and opportunities and whatnot as her management because its their job, but the decision and a lot of the risk ends up being hers.  And it's probably one of those situations where they fear to be too overbearing since she could just runaway.

See I know all of this, but what perplexes me is that SM's reputation has seriously tarnished in the past decade because of this control game. If your new groups aren't hitting the way they used to and you still have contracts for older acts who are still commercially viable, use them to promote the company as a brand. aespa is a few years away from becoming exactly the same kind of problem for them. SM has a lot of groups with steady fanbases, but that fanbase was undeniably built on their pedigree for talent and excellent music direction. They need hits and acclaim to keep the machine churning. SM used to know this, which is how we used to get stan bait groups like SJ and respected hitmakers like SHINee in the same gen. Their new strategy is bombing, the success of the entire company is currently riding on 4 women and their ability to keep doing massive tours every year. Lizard failed. H2H aren't failed but they didn't catch on to the level that GGs from SNSD to aespa did in their first year. The company's market position is slipping and the executives keep going further down a failed path for expansion, their financials look good but that's only because the entire industry has grown. They went from total market dominance to b-list groups.

 

 

It's really wild to me that they underpromoted and even at the end outright sabotaged SNSD for the last few years of their original contracts, only for their successors to end up less popular, but then did the exact same thing to Red Velvet after they won stupid prizes for that stupid game last time. There's no reason the Psycho chanteuses could not have had equally sized hits with a proper push, but instead the focus is always on newer, less popular groups that they see a higher ROI on but that will NEVER gain the momentum their predecessors had. This strategy doesn't work because it fails to defend their current market position. JYP debuts groups every 5 minutes but he never forgets to give Twice and Stray Cats their comebacks. SM is just sitting on one of the biggest hitmakers of the last 20 years in Korea and failing to give her the resources she needs to keep carrying the company. EXO is about to bomb as the result of something similar too. 

 

 

The old guard at SM was aware of all of this and basically let BoA and TVX2 do whatever they want at whatever scale they wanted for YEARS after their peaks. YG knows this too and is throwing their whole weight behind a comeback for a group with ZERO members under an exclusive contract next year, just because the comeback will have a huge impact on both their bottom line and public image. The second the new groups started slipping in popularity compared to their seniors on debut(this point was NCT), SM should have pumped the brakes on this terrible new strategy and shifted to supporting their legacy groups to keep the company's image and position as the #1 kpop label on life support.

I think so. 2025 seemed like more of their throwaway, let the girls do what they want to do content. SM did not invest very heavily in their promo at all and so I wonder if they're already working on contract disputes.

The fact that they're selling out the Kyocera Dome AND Tokyo Dome numerous times with only one Japanese single. SM seems to have a massive content production problem for all of their female artists.

I think the How Sweet and Supernatural hip hop eras were a detour to switch things up and keep things fresh before their magnum opus. Their 1st album would have been more aligned with the varied range of playful and whimsical themes found in the Get Up era rollout. Lots of hints about a green clover, fairies, Mario...

 

That album was canceled, and they were headed in a different direction as NJZ with the Formula One theme for Pit Stop.

 

And now this is canceled too, and whatever is coming out of Ador is likely going to suck anyway.

I'm wondering if they release a best of because she is leaving SM. This way they are cashing in on a comeback but don't have to invest much in her.
