Is "Disease" risky?

Since you're a fan of Gags, did you actually read the lyrics on The Cure, or you've assumed so going with just a title comparison? Genuine question

Yes, I've read the lyrics of Disease on Genius, and there's this annotation provided (I'm assuming by her fans, upvoted by 19 people) which should be helpful:

"In the past, Gaga has made reference to herself as a healing substance to display the kind of unconditional love she wants to give to her partner. For instance on The Cure, she exclaims:

Promise I'll always be there

Promise I'll be the cure (Be the cure)"

  • A risk in the sense that this is a solo Gaga song.

  • No return to form is risky. She returned to a sound of hers that is increasingly becoming more viral, and deliberately during this time of the year, hoping it becomes a Halloween staple. No risks take

  • It has a sound reminiscent of her first two albums, making it a safe choice stylistically.  However, it's only risky because it feels like a mediocre attempt to recapture that original vibe.

So you'll agree that, in this reference, the context and the message behind them are different, since The Cure is textbook hoping for our loved one to genuinely heal and feel better, while Disease is about obsession and sexual innuendos

There you go sis, write this on Genius since you have its page open please

  • No, Unholy was more experimental, and Disease being slightly industrial is not risky. It is a good electro-pop song, nothing more, nothing less.

If you are on the publics good side you don't need to be risky. The song is fine, nothing groundbreaking or showstopper imo but it's not bad :michael:

Nnn.:lmao:While you may have a valid point, I don't think the casual listener is going to look beyond the surface level / look that deep into it sis, ijs. Forming a song around the word "cure" again just comes off as redundant

Let's agree to disagree then, otherwise this thread will be only the two of us talking, and I fear then we won't be beating the "looking for a job application at a library" accusations :toofunny3:

sksksks :ahh:

lowkey. it's electropop in 2024 but it's also very sanitized/ai'd compared to BTW

What's risky about her revisiting an old sound from the height of her career with a rehash of a song that went viral less than 2 years ago? Harlequin was risky. This isn't

yes, extremely talented and extremely risky,  love it for ms. Gár

Yes, It depends on the disease though. Every disease can present with various symptoms, signs and structure.

It's definitely risky to comeback with this outdated tune and BTW production. Apart from Joanne and ASIB, don't think she change her style or sound much. Not much of a risk taker in terms of evolving her sound or image.

They tried to make it risky but didn't risk enough, coming Gaga I expect this going all the way in.

The song was probably rush released to fit Halloween after a string of flops.

It's always risky to rush release with no plan

Gaga knew she was releasing 25 October since at least the beginning of September. Harlequin - a JAZZ ALBUM, mind you - hadn't been released at that point. And DWAS is not a flop. It's challenging for #1 on the Hot 100 next week.

Disease is the safest route for Gaga, she knows the GP doesn't care as much and that she should market for hyperpop fans which is exactly what she did

But they do care, depending on the song. Just cause certain releases aren't smash hits, doesn't mean the GP doesn't care overall...

I like the song but it's clunky and abrasive (by design) and definitely an acquired taste. But any response other than "it's a perfectly safe pop song :flower:" will get you an "aDdInG tHiS tO tHe WhEeL oF eXcUsES" response from OGHs.

I wouldn't call it "risky", but I wouldn't call it radio pandering either.  Both things can be true.

As a Gaga fan, this is the most  generic safe and boring lead she's ever had. Even stupid love was more risky fresh and fun.

The mv should've accompanied the song. Missed opportunity
