Cissy "I'm a christian woman" talking about **** this and b*tch that. she was a terrible human being and failed her daughter. instead of worrying about Janet, maybe she should have worried about her daughter's coke habit. maybe she should have worried about her daughter marrying an abuser. but she didnt care. cissy only cared about the fame and fortune.  singing gospel, acting like she was always in the church. i can see the mean spiritedness in just this 1 minute clip. good riddance to her.

A church woman :clap3:

Oooop :rip:She was right about Paula Abdul though.

This clip always cracks me up.

The irony of them dragging Paula for having a fake image and Janet lacking class, only for Whitney to become one of the biggest junkies in music  and her voice ending up worse than Paula's

Janet really shook the industry with how innovative her sound and performing style were and some of the ancient girlies like Cissy were pressed because they couldn't keep up with the times :gaynetcat3:

Her saying that Whitney didn't need that "Janet Jackson ****" in 1990 was so ironic because that's exactly when Nippy went more urban and started doing New Jack Swing (a genre pioneered by Janet) and incorporated more dance routines in her MVs and performances during the I'm Your Baby Tonight era; in the midst of Rhythm Nation 1814's blockbuster success and following the backlash from the black community for being too pop.

Janet's impact on the girls was real chile :gaynetcat1:

By the way Cissy had one of the worst tones and ugliest vibratos in the industry. Even at her best she sounded pretty bad. Janet knows perfectly how to use her small but pretty ass voice and you'll never catch her sounding a mess whenever she sings live. RIP tho!

Talent recognized talent because Nippy loved Janet and the love was reciprocal

Talking about class when Janet all through the 80s up to the late 80s was clothed from head to toe and didn't break out of her shell until 1992 what was she on about?. And the OP is weird, just cause she said something stupid doesn't mean she's MAGA.

Whitney had amazing voice but no class, the little class she had she always tried to get rid off and always acted like she's from the hood. Has anyone heard her Christmas album?

Quite frankly not surprised at all. She was the conservative christian who would rather her daughter be miserable, depressed, drug-dependent than be the bisexual free-spirited individual she truly was so I am not surprised at all that she would say this about Janet who was the very opposite of the ideal woman and artist to a conservative Christian at the time.

the girls were wild in the 80's. Whitney was really bothered by Paula's success so I guess that was in 1990 during I'm Your Baby Tonight (which ironically it's when Whitney started to change to keep it up with the times :skull: )

Could you imagine if Beyoncé or Xtina said something like that about Britney in the early 00's or if Demi Lovato said something like that about Selena? :skull:

What Xtina said after the 2003's VMAs wasn't even that bad compared to what Whitney said about Paula and Legend X is treated like the most mean girl ever or something like that   :dies:

Off key on the record is insane :deadbanana4:

How are you that horrible at singing :deadbanana4:

No, does anyone remember or think about what Cissy Houston of all people has to say about other artists? The same woman who was jealous of her own daughter's sucess. :rip:

Also Whitney complaining about other singers having more sucess than her comes off pretty tone deaf and entitled. She got used to being on top and her ego was bruised when singer-dancer artists like Janet and Paula became much cooler and for a time more successful. It's pretty obvious Whitney stanned Control and Rhythm Nation and they eventually became friends/acquaintances according to Janet.

Beyonce, Demi, Selena rest assured ARE saying these things about each other just not in front of the camera. And to be fair, Whitney and Cissy didn't say this in the public either this is unearthed footage like 10 years after Whitney's death.

I think you are missing the context a bit.

This was in 1991 when Whitney was on a downslope losing around 60% of her base.

Paula adbul had a breakthrough era in the late 80s with Forever your girl and then followed that up with a 2nd album containing two #1s hits.

Whitney I bet is referencing Rush Rush which was off key in so many areas BUT still gets good recurrent play ironically moreso than her dance classics.

With Janet, she was clothed but people forget by the END of the RN era she was transforming showing her body: BLack Cat she performed at the VMAs and opened up her blouse to expose her bra...she was showing off her new curvy slimmed down body in the love will never do without you video with a blonde wig on.

I can see an older person thinking this as selling out and conforming...also, there was always tea about how Paula rose up in the ranks which Whitney hinted at her image of being squeaky clean not being the real her as she was the sidepiece to one of the jackson brothers when he was married and other questionable things. Janet too had her grown ways and I'm sure Whitney and Cissy knew about the Janet and Bobby hookup in the late 80s.

BOTTOM LINE: For the first time (1991) Nippy was lagging behind and Whitney was fed up with how these girls who combined can touch her vocals were able to eventually move up in the ranks in terms of #1s

1985-1986 Madonna and Whitney where miles ahead of the competition

1987-1988 Whitney and Madonna still holding but Whitney overpowered.

1988-1989 Paula becomes this smash sensation and Janet has a breakthrough at the end of the decade. Whitney gets backlash for selling out even though she didn't feel she did.

1990 Janet dominates and Paula finishes out her era on top. Madonna gets Vogue.

By 1991,

Cyndi was long but out of the top 5 game.

After facing backlash, Whitney went from a 10x platinum album to a 4x platinum album.

Mariah debuted and doubled her with a 9x platinum album and got credit for being a songwriter and producer.

Madonna was pre-Erotica backlash and still in a decent position post Vogue

Paula faced backlash for her voice but managed to snag two #1 hits with ballads/mid tempos at that: Rush Rush and The promise of a new day.

Janet closed out a gamechanging era of dance pop to pop to r&b/urban to rock to AC and her numbers were higher and singles performed better than Whitney's.

Whitney had 2 #1 hits:clap3:but the other singles didn't fare well.

Madonna's Immacuate collection album including Vogue was selling well.

Paula did decline but still had 2 #1s hits much like Whitney and her hits did better than Whitney's

Janet had what 3-4 #1s/7 top 10s and sold over 7M units

This was the one time Janet actually dominated:

By 1991,

Janet > Madonna>Paula>Whitney>>>>>Cyndi

In the 80s Madonna and Whitney had it and Paula had it for a year but then it was Janet's turn.

I think the competitive aspects played a part. MANY people were trying to turn Whitney into an 80s relic because Mariah broke through had a bigger range and more credibility as an artist who wrote, arranged and produced. Celine came through too a bit.

1991 was an iffy year for Whitney and you can see it in this clip. I think she didn't mind Mariah and Celine but it was moreso these lesser talented vocalist who finally crept up and started to best her. Technically, Madonna only bested Whitney as the best female artist of the 80s because she put out more records. Units Per album, Whitney was stomping Madonna in the 80s and 90s.

To be fair, they probably have said it. Most people will be honest in private. This was a private moment with mother and daughter that they recorded, not an interview. None of these artists would ever say this in an interview aside from maybe Madonna.

It was grave lesson for Whitney.

People don't look at things on a wider scale.

Whitney per album dominated the 80s and outsold...Madonna just put out more product. Janet and others were lagging behind. Paula Abdul has a breakthrough year and then Janet does. This is all while Whitney is being boo'd at the Soul Train Awards for "selling out" and she puts out an album pandering to the black community afterwards WHICH Clive Davis was against because he warned her that the complaints won't translate into sales. She loses and then he tells her to go back to your strengths with pop/AC/dance pop with limited soul and then she had one of the biggest comebacks.

This was in 1991 while she was on the road watching the girls that trailed behind match her or even best her. Her going r&b was a trap and it kept Clive's grip on her when his direction succeeded and her deviation underperformed.

Every generation had this going on. There's always mega talented people who compete with people who are marginally talented and they are not excited when those people surpass expectations.

There's no need to shade Britney and make this an image rehabilitation agenda for Xtina. Whitney said this off the record and wanted the Janet shade edited out. She knew this segment would be edited out when her mama went there with Janet so she started talking about Paula openly. This was only leaked for her family to exploit her.

Exactly. We only know about this because Whitney's greedy family wanted to exploit her for more coins.

Whitney remained classy to the lesser talented singers. She was asked about Janet and Madonna often and never shaded them as hard as she ironically did with Mariah. LOL. She kind of did shade Diana Ross but that was light shade as she was giving her mother props.

She knew she didn't have to say it publicly as everyone else would say it anyways.

Agree with everything other than that part about Cissy's voice. She was a homophobic conservative bigot but that lady could SING :deadbanana4:
