I've been seeing many stans and ATRLers talk about how Taylor is not letting other artists shine or how she wants the attention all for herself… now, is it her fault that she's just too big? and should she inject some flopness into her career so another singers can get as much attention as her? Can another artist have their own Eras Tour or *insert last name* mania? Discuss

I mean aside from the live tracks (which is literally her website person's assistant clicking a few buttons to upload it to her digital store) there's literally nothing she's doing to stop people from shining

she doesn't need to flop. she'd still be the most successful artist of our time if she stopped the chart-hungry tactics to sabotage other artists.

Instead of releasing a single voice memo or acoustic version (or whatever her stupid fans keep buying) every week, she should package them all into a single deluxe version

If you want to contribute to Taylor's downfall, you should buy all the new versions she releases every week - this way, TTPD will stay #1 for months on end, blocking every artist in the industry, which will eventually result in her becoming so unpopular that she self-implodes and turns into a cloud of dust, disappearing from our world forever.

As a Swiftie myself, I feel like this behaviour is alienating her from having any moderate/casual fans.

 

Being a Swiftie is quickly becoming a religion and an entire identity, and if that doesn't resonate with people, they distance themselves from her fans as much as possible.

 

I actually think that Tree and Taylor need to start looking at this as a PR crisis, because for every Swiftie who's posting "YES! ANOTHER WEEK AT #1. SHE DESERVES IT! AND IF YOUR FAVES WERE ANYWHERE NEAR AS GOOD, THEY'D BE ABLE TO GET IT ON THEIR OWN"  — there's a Chappell Fan, or a Billie fan, or a Charli fan, going "oh…I really thought she deserved to get a #1 album with this era. It was pretty impactful and a career peak for her 😔"

 

Unlike sports, it's possible for fans of pop culture to root for multiple "teams" at once, because they're making similar art. If you like one girl's pop music…chances are…you'll like another girl's pop music, because she's also a girl…making pop music.

 

Whether or not Taylor's intention is to block other artists (or to simply break records) is beside-the-point to me. At the end of the day, I think it's pissing off other fan bases, and it's alienating Swifties from the wider pop music community. And from a PR perspective, I think regardless of her intentions, she and Tree need to be a little bit more aware of how it's being perceived.

This isn't a charity.

The thing is, just because she's not #1 one week that doesn't mean she's not shining. But for other artists, hitting #1 would be huge. 

Everyone, including her fans who don't live through her achievements, would say that she should give herself a break. She can have multiple weeks at #1 organically with her albums - no need to keep releasing cash grab versions.

Taylor's shouldn't let others shine. That wouldn't work. What really needs to happen is that the listeners she gathered from folklore on (and then a new wave of listeners during the Eras Tour) need to stop listening to her, and that will only happen in due time.

 

When that finally happens there'll be balance again.
