Espresso for Pop Vocal Performance, Please Please Please for the rest

Espresso: Record of the Year & Best Pop Solo Performance

Please Please Please: Song of the Year

Please Please Please is more appealing to the Grammy voters since it has a wide range of genres and it's more universally directed to a lot of demographics but Espresso could won on Best Pop Vocal and Record Of The Year? Idk

expresso, obviously.

Please x3 is cute, but expresso is her ultimate hit.

Is it? Isn't PPP bigger in every metric except for radio (and PPP will obviously outdo Espresso there).

PPP is gaining momentum because it's a new song, but 'Expresso' is significantly more popular overall.

This makes the most sense. Pop voters love a super catchy summer hit and Espresso is fitting for ROTY, but PPP is clearly more of a writing achievement and appeals more broadly to Grammy voters.

Whatever song is the bigger hit when all is said and done. Ariana split her submissions twice with NTLTC/GIAW and 7 rings/TUN. They ended up snubbing NTLTC and TUN. It's not an effective strategy and better off choosing one hit to push for ROTY/SOTY/Pop Solo. But I doubt she's winning anything anyway unless she is eligible for BNA.

PPP

I actively like PPP + think it's more musical, but Espresso is still cute

Ppp might have been #1 due to sheer hype, but Espresso will remain the bigger smash with a bigger impact and reach. It's quite literally a frontrunner for song of the summer 2024, so espresso.

i can see ppp get some noms too though.

Win? Gurl, we are just discussing nominations, one thing at a time. 🥵

I don't think the split strategy is actually what hurt Ariana in these cases; for 7 rings/TUN, the former Recording Academy CEO implied that TUN received enough votes to be in the top 8 for SOTY but was excluded by the committee. Nominations are now decided by a straight vote, so committee subjectivity wouldn't affect Sabrina the same way it did Ariana that year. With GIAW/NTLTC, neither received general field nominations anyways, so it isn't known whether the split submission strategy hurt, helped, or made no difference.

I agree though that submitting whichever ends up as the biggest song across the board would work (I'd enjoy an Espresso - ROTY and PPP - SOTY split though). It's definitely the most commonly used approach, but she seems to be spoiled for choice here. The best strategy will probably seem more clear as the deadline approaches.

Also, I feel like she'll definitely be competitive for a win in Pop Solo at minimum since either PPP or Espresso (whichever's submitted) is shaping up to be the biggest hit in contention. If her album's successful, that'll also give her a boost (in Pop Vocal Album too - having two massive hits is already a big strength, but Billie may be too strong to beat).
