No, the radio audience seems to be resistant to any song that sounds slightly interesting. Things have been better in 2023-2024 but still lots of room for improvement. 

No. They’re to blame for all these mediocre straight men who stomp on all our talented female and queer faves.

Plus, there's bunch of girls doing great pop music (Robyn, Jessie Ware, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Tove Lo, etc) and the GP just doesn't get it.

PHUCK no. My mother (who always had top tier taste in music) has discovered those 800 channels on dish tv (she’s 68 lay off her) and she’s always trying to make me listen to Harry styles or Ed Sheeran or whatever is on top 40 and she just thinks they’re the best 

I told her if she doesn’t knock it off she’s getting put in a nursing home.

i dont want to sound like BASIC B but ill be honest, most of the times they do.

there is a reason something is on top of the charts besides always promotion/exposing the talent/etc

I’m sorry but they tend to go for the watered down versions of good sh*t. the real changes started to happen I think around 1997-2001. there’s still been excellent pop songs which have ended being hits, dgmw, but a lot of the time the sound of the zeitgeist depends on taking prime underground sounds and making them stripped to their bare essentials and spoonfed gently to the mainstream. I’m glad people like Olivia and Billie and Dua are bringing interesting sounds back to the mainstream and can take advantage of radio deals which allow them the freedom to be themselves while still getting hits, but the f*cking men need to step it up too. think about how much better female-performed hits have been than male-performed hits dating back to like… f*cking 2011. ladies just get it better. it almost feels like authenticity is engrained in their souls and accessed more easily (shocker right! it’s not like the best songwriters of all time have been women or anything ) but yeah. wish the GP would understand that more. god I wish I could be a popstar and show these boring straight men that they don’t have to always be so boring. I’d be singing songs about friendship turbulence rather than necessarily romantic sh*t. about existentialism and self-doubt and feelings of social anxiety and the pursuit of higher knowledge and maybe even some gay sexual undertones rather than “oh I went on a date with this girl and I miss her everyday” but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like the GP is necessarily ready for that. I’ll just continue making music for me and the gays I guess  

 

 

Just look at the US charts.

They have their moments but they've let too many bops flop to be credited with good taste, at least from a queer perspective.
