Competing eras where one eventually overtook the other?

Featured Replies

What are some examples of 2 competing pop eras that happened around the same time where one eventually surpassed the other?

The first one that comes to mind is BOMT vs Xtina debut. Xtina had 3 #1 singles and another top 3, while BOMT had 1 #1 single and no other top 10s. Decades later, Britney’s singles have gotten more streams/sales/views than Xtina’s.

what are some others? :flower:

ARTPOP and quality don’t belong in the same sentence

  • i think you're mistaken    and PRISM is objectively much much worse even if ARTPOP isn't quality, so my point still stands

  • BOMT and CA were never equal. BOMT's singles demolished CA singles WW, and BOMT's sales were much higher during its year.

I remember 24k Magic and Starboy competing in late 2016, and Bruno was winning at some point.

Fast forward a few years later, Starboy left the other one in the dust and became one of the biggest classics of the decade :coffee:

Kesha used to be compared to Gaga and Katy back in 2010 and 2011. Now she competes with Bebe Rexha for album sales.

The beef between Nelly & Fergie.

Both albums are now quite equal now I'd say. With Nelly having maybe a slight edge

I remember back in like 2014-2016 when there used to be heated debates about whether Ariana or Meghan Trainor was the bigger pop girl. Welp…

Also Zara vs Dua debates in 2016/2017 lol

CHROMATICA AND FUTURE NOSTALGIA

FN album leaked and sales flopped during the first week but time was the ultimate truth tella on this battle

Exactly, I was confused when I read the OP, Britney was dominating since the very first second and hasn't stopped since.

In a very subtle way Rihanna’s Loud and Katy’s Teenage Dream.  Both were going back and forth with #1 singles in 2010/2011 but Katy eventually took the lead ET.

PRISM crushed ARTPOP

21 overshadowed Born This Way's success and all Gaga's remaining hype in 2011-12

Is it time that told the truth or was it the 12 singles, the deluxe version where beyonces, rihannas, mileys, michael jackson adn madonnas discographys were added to the reason it became a bigger success? Explain shyBOI

BOMT was a much bigger album obviously, but Christina’s singles did much better on Billboard which was my point. Britney’s had more popularity in the long run despite not peaking as high

Nelly Furtado seems to be a lot more respected by the GP, Fergie unintentionally became a meme that doesn't put her under the brightest light.

The entire bomt era was far bigger than xtina debut era. Not too mention Britney was far a bigger force internationally than xtina ever was.

No wonder why Britney stans hated Beyoncé :bird:

lemonade and anti?

Yeah those were the eras that came to mind right away, and Lemonade had the early lead but Anti took it eventually.
