Why did Beyonce pull a Xtina?

Honestly, that Verizon announcement commercial right after Usher's performance is something I've never seen before.

Who approved that?

I was shocked and disappointed that she did that tbh. Like she couldn't have waited a day ot two to let a peer and a fellow R&B icon have his moment?

It wouldn’t have been as bad if they hadn’t done that whole, “Oh, you liked Usher? Watch this!” angle.

Like, there was room for both of them to have a Moment™ and they didn’t need to undermine Usher’s like that.

He performed at the Super Bowl. He had his moment that many will never get.

Verizon has been partnered with Beyonce for like two decades now and they wanted to use the obvious social media success to propel their brand.

It was very me me me but not surprised she’s done things like this before.

The commercial is fine I guess (I haven't watched it) but dropping her new singles and announcing a new era minutes after Usher's performance? Come on now, it was a classless move.

I'm no Taylor fan but just imagine if she had done the same thing when Beyoncé performed at the Super Bowl for the first time. Everybody and their mama would be calling her out, rightfully so. And those two don't have the same history that Bey and Usher have.

Verizon bought the slot and they did it months ago. They prepared the video well before Usher was even announced. And they picked the timeframe that typically has the most viewers - right around halftime.

And for the record - Beyonce did do that to my fave in 2011 at the VMAs. My fave received a lifetime achievement award and Beyonce wanted to be close to her to help her own promo. There’s nothing wrong with that and all of these artists are friends to some degree. I’m sure they’re more than happy to share the spotlight with a friend.

Both artist are being talked about. No one was overshadowed.

they think the night would have been all about Usher anyway, not when Taylor was there :ryan3:

It came off really classless - especially the wording of the ad intro that came on the screen literally seconds after Usher finished. I think it would've been fine without that snarky line and in a different timeslot during the broadcast.

Beyoncé announced 2 tours at the Super Bowl...why not allude to new music? It's not like the ad was FOR her new music...it's not like she staged her own performance immediately after. It was a fun, Super Bowl-style ad that ended with "drop the new music" and a Verizon logo. She gave no details, no dates, no titles. To a lot of people it probably just seemed like the last punchline.

There’s always excuses for Beyonce, when she walks all over people and steal their spotlight, even when she does it to a supposed friend.

A celebrity trying to steal the spotlight from other celebrities? Color me SHOCKED.

No shade but it’s not like people were going to be talking about his Halftime show regardless

No matter who’s doing it, it’s tacky and childish but doing it right at the same time than someone’s SB is absolutely disgusting.
