Out of the five Top 10 singles from 1989, Style peaked the lowest on the Hot 100 (#6). Since then, it has consistently been the first or second most streamed song from the album (only Blank Space can compete), and the first day numbers for 1989 (TV) show it outperforming the rest. Why?

I think it had to do with the fact that Shake It Off and Blank Space were still going super strong.

also radio started playing it super early even before it was a single. and it was off of spotify. by the time the video came, radio, sales and streaming all had different peaks.

Because people at the time of the initial release of 1989 mostly listened to her mainstream singles, and Out of the Woods and Style weren't super mainstream since Shake It Off and Bad Blood were the songs that took over radio. Now she is also on Spotify, so people can listen to Style at will.

Probably one the most memorable pop songs ever crafted. I was always kinda shocked it flopped compared to the other 1989 singles, but time is the ultimate truth teller and she came back stronger than ever in the past few years, fighting ms blank space as the biggest hit out of that era.

 

style TV’s success, as botched as it is compared to the OG, just proves it should become Taylor’s Thriller.

The new version is really bad but is such an iconic song   Pop perfection and very timeless.  If it rises to nr1 that would be a dream come true
We need a remix with Harry styles.

The new version sounds incredible and even better than the original on high-end earbuds. The layers, the backing vocals, the energy, the quality of the lead vocals… It’s on a whole other level.

I think its re-recording is bad on purpose so people check it out first 

the GP was afraid Smashest Dreams would go #1, so they're streaming Style out of pity

In addition to what the others already said here, I think her team wants her name to rest a bit after being everywhere from August to December 2014 to promote SIO, Blank Space, and 1989. Hence, she did not really promote Style during its peak, which is around February 2015 (it probably would have been a top 3 hit if she performed it at the Grammys).

 

Also, they sacrificed Style for Bad Blood

The expectation on Style mv is so high after the Blank Space mv. I also felt underwhelmed when I watched Style mv for the first time but I grew on me a lot over the years. I think the mv is perfect for the song, but still can’t compare to Blank Space and Wildest Dreams videos.

We need Taylor's 11th #1 to be one of the finest and most iconic songs of her career, not some mid vault track that will be forgotten in a month. Go stream Style TV now! (even if it's inferior to the original)
