Can we get out of the mindset that something has to be groundbreaking to be enjoyable? That’s such a trite and snobby point of view. 

Deserved more, in my opinion. Why do I get the impression that they got scared of giving it a higher score? lol Also, why does the review read like a 7? Pitchy has been so inconsistent these past few years

I literally thought the same, they were my least favorite songs when first listening and haven’t really grown on me after more listens either.

An album doesn't have to be groundbreaking to be great and imo this was a solid effort from miss rodrigo but music is subjective and not everything is for you

This album is nowhere near Melodrama and comparisons shouldn't even be made. It's a cute 7.5-7.8 imo (which is a great score, idk why people act like thats a pan). This hyperbolic level of Poptimism really needs to be stopped though. And I'm including my fave Taylor in this after some of those Midnights reviews.

I'm a huge Stan of pure heroine but I personally didn't like melodrama which just affirms music being subjective, people will have a different opinion on music because how they'll receive it contingent on several factors and they aren't wrong

Would've been 9.0 + BNM if they replaced logical with obsessed and scrapped the grudge

I am perhaps the biggest rock fan on this site. It is pretty much 90% of what I listen to… Psychadelic, Glam, Progressive, Punk, Post-Punk, Shoegaze, Grunge.

 

There is barely anything “rock” about this album. Maybe 4 songs have the slightest Disney rock influence. Which is the most commercialized, cheap, watered down and least common denominator incarnation of rock adjacent music.

You're just being pretencious. Comparing it to machine gun kelly just shows how little knowledge you have. MGK is mid 2000s alternative  radio cheap rock that was played on mtv. Dan's production on this is late 90s emo rock and alternative which is why it's getting praise

It is literally the same level of “art”. They are both inspired by Miley Cyrus/Hillary Duff level Disney rock ripoff of Avril who herself mainstream record labels marketable teen version of 90s rock. It’s honestly like laughable. There is nothing rock about the making of the music or the finished project apart from the fact there are guitars. And that’s fine. I just don’t like it 

 

This is getting praise for the same reason all of Taylor’s stuff is lately:

 

A) poptimism

B) it is a “cultural” moment given the artists hype and size

 

I can guarantee you if someone like Demi Lovato (who also barely makes rock influenced music) put this out, it would not be getting the absurdly high praise this is

good score and fair review.
