Album which needs a sequel

Featured Replies

With Nicki releases Pink Friday 2.0 in October, what other albums are interesting enough to be made a sequel out of the previous ones?

Most sequel albums end up disappointing, so I'm fine with classics being left alone. If anything, I'd love sequels of albums with great concepts but middling executions.

Honestly Nevermind is the prime example. He needs to give us more house-rap bangers like Sticky and leave the ViBeS late-night music in the trash folder.

Yup.

I hope they name it "Love is Everything".

I would also love aย B'Day II.

Lock Rich Harrison, Swizz Beatz, The Neptunes, Darkchild, and The-Dream in Sony Studios with Beyoncรฉ, Angie, Nija, NovaWav, Sean Garrett, and Solange for two weeks?ย :smitten:ย ย

Can someone explain the concept of a sequel album to me

ย

I feel like it only makes sense if it was literally a story/concept album

ย

Like how can Pink Friday have a sequel

ย

and hold on, how is Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded not literally the same thing as a Pink Friday sequel

I feel like I've never heard of this

think Lil Wayne (The Carter, The Carter II, III, IV, V)ย and Jay Z (The Blueprint, The Blueprint 2, The Blueprint 3). I think Eminem also did Marshall Mathers LP 2 as a sequel 13 years later. pop girls usually don't go this route but sequels aren't uncommon in hiphop. they don't have to really have a strong narrative through line but they sometimes do.

ย

Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded definitely counts as a sequel in my book. so Pink Friday 2 makes it a trilogy I guess.

I think series like The Carter, The Blueprint, etc. were mostly done to help those artists get music out the door quickly without having to consider branding or theming, because they were releasing music very frequently at the time. They're not purposeful sequels so much as they are just convenient, familiar packaging, designed to accommodate artists who released frequently. Nicki is the opposite of an artist who releases frequently; Nicki has released one album in the last eight years, and besides, Pink Friday is thirteen years old. Meaning, this has to be some kind of purposeful, intentioned sequel. But what is the purpose or intention? Pink Friday is probably Nicki's least heavily themed album.

idk girl, we're gonna have to wait and see. but maybe it's called PF2 because she'll go back to that sound. it could be that simple.ย :michael:

Sequel albums are rarely as good. Too much expectations and the door is wide open for comparison.

I donโ€™t know but Rihanna seemed to have done this with LOUD, with SILENCE.
