Epic dropped Mariah Carey?

Featured Replies

She’s not on Epic’s website. What happened? What’s her label now? I need answers.

She’s been off their site for almost half a year because she signed a deal with LA Reid’s private label.

Maybe she signed with XMasRecords?

"MC Records"

Hmm, honestly not a bad idea. She can sign Brenda and Santa.

:clap3:

No one will have the audacity to drop a legend lmao. She probably moved to another label herself.

Getting dropped by arguably the worst major label right now would be crazy :rip: maybe the contract just ended

Legends like Mariah Carey are not "dropped" :dies: Her starpower/name enough is one they always want to have. Anyway, she left Epic to sign to LA Reid's new record label I believe.

You don’t just “drop” Mariah Carey. Labels understand that artists reach a certain status & point in their career/legacy, & renegotiate, adjust budget allocation & reassess ROI etc, but no one would drop a legend. It’s likely a decision she’s made to move into a more suitable or personally beneficial situation.

I mean… on one hand Mariah is a legend and she’s definitely bringing some money during the Christmas season. On the other hand… the only thing she’s done in the past five + years that did well was being sampled on Big Energy and then being on the remix. And of course Christmas.

you have to wait until Christmas for her artist page to pop up

People saying she's signed to L.A Reid's label... Isn't J Lo signed to that label also?

Whatever label she's on, I hope she releases something soon. I can't believe it's been five years since she released Caution; that's still an odd project for me, with how she just came and went in the blink of an eye.

Nobody would EVER drop MC from a label. Like, EVER. If anything she would have asked to leave if she’s not in contract to give them a record

Mariah is too big to be dropped.
she literally has to most profitable single of all time. She makes more money a year with one single than pop girls make while on tour for a whole year. Any label dropping Mariah would be so stupid.

Yall know Mariah was paid to leave a label in the noughties, right? As in they paid her to sever ties.

5 years:

2018 - Caution

2018 - Xmas tour, Caution Tour

2019 - MC 25

2019 - Butterfly Returns, Xmas Tour

2020 - MC30

2020 - The Rarities

2020 - MC's Magical Christmas Special

2021 - FILAC

2022 - Xmas book, Xmas special, BER, Butterfly25, Masterclass, Xmas Wrapping

2023 - Festival shows, IAW EP

Mariah shifted 3 million sps albums units in that timeframe (only counting, re-releases and Xmas) and 18 million singles sps (xmas and new releases)

I’m not saying she isn’t moving anything but as far as NEW content goes, she hasn’t done much. She’s primarily benefitted from Christmas rehashes or the random new Christmas song and re-releasing anniversary editions of her older albums. Also, what are MC25 and MC30? I don’t see them anywhere on Spotify at all.

that was before AIWFCIY took off as much as it did now. they didn't drop her either, they asked her to leave and paid her out for it.

it was basically just when she released all of her singles + remixes from her entire career online and on streaming services. this was mostly remixes that were only found on the single cds at the time. she also digitally remastered all of her music videos, rescanned the negatives for fantasy and did a true 4k video, dropped standard black and coloured pressings for her entire discography on vinyl and released an unreleased music video from 1995

MC25 is the re-issue of her Merry Christmas album for its 25th anniversary and MC30 isn't an album, it was the celebration of her 30 year career and for that occasion, she has released a lot of content on streaming services, such as her maxi singles containing the numerous remixes she's released throughout her career. You can easily see them on Spotify in the singles section because they have the "MC30" tag on their covers.

I know the context, just thought it was an interesting callback to those posts esp after her gargantuan 90s run.

Big energy sampled Genius of Love by The Tom Tom Club not Mariah.
