lol this thread. As far as ATRL is aware Elon loaded up all the pop girlies (except Taylor since she did her due-diligence) on that thing and tried to shoot them straight to the moon.

 

It was a test flight and the fact that that absurd rocket even cleared the tower, much less reached main engine cutoff on the booster, without exploding, is a pretty big success and a good sign for the future viability of this rocket.

 

NASA is planning on using this thing to land gays on the moon (a worthy cause especially if they draft some ATRL ones for the next test launch), and eventually to Mars where Britney can record an updated version of her Oops I Did It Again music video where she twirls in reduced gravity.

Hate Elon but this was a test flight and it was known there is a high chance of it going this way. Clearing the launch tower and managing to get to Max Q successfully is already a big achievement for the first attempt. The explosion itself was the rocket self destructing after it spun out of control due to a failure at stage separation.

The launch also wasn't planned to go fully orbital but was intended to crash into the ocean regardless. There will be many more attempts and probably a few more failures as well before they completely get it up and running.

Starship and the Super Heavy booster that launches it are key for the upcoming Lunar landing in 2025 (pending delays that will most likely happen). A Lunar lander version of the Starship is planned to wait for the NASA Orion crew in Lunar orbit where they will board it and land on the Moon then return to the Orion capsule afterwards.

I'm sure there's a simple answer for this that I'm just not seeing, but like...how is it that privately funded space related things like this seems to have so many issues that NASA mostly figured out decades ago?  Like I know issues can happen at any time for anyone, but from someone who doesn't have all the information, I feel like I'm always hearing about these major malfunctions with these private space missions that you don't hear about with NASA related things as much anymore.

I'm still stumped as to why all those people started clapping and cheering on the live stream when they saw it blow up
