so with TWICE also being monster tour girlies, how do we rank the 3rd gen girlies overall with the 4th gen monsters?

to me:

 

1. BLACKPINK - not a digital monster anymore like IVE and newjennies but are still digital monster compared to all 3rd gen groups, still the biggest female album sellers even with 4th gens selling like hotcakes, huge WW streams, 4 biggest names kpop has ever had, all members are super successful, biggest tour by a kpop act, headlining biggest US and UK festivals coachella and bst hyde park, still slaying 7 years later WW while keeping their original sound/without going full english releases like bots and twice - overall still the biggest female kpop act right now idk no need to explain further 

 

2. TWICE - fell off hardmdigitally but for some reason is still standing strong, tours are doing great #s, 3rd gg behind blackpink and snsd when it comes to touring, sales are consistent (most 4th gens outsell them but still), successful soloist, huge girl group in america (?)

 

3. IVE - all 3 releases so far are monster hits in korea and WW, album sales are millions despite all releases being single albums, has the biggest 4th gen it girl etc

 

4. aespa - fight me. the first and only girl group that outsold BLACKPINK's The Album in 2021. huge digital hits, kinda meh WW but not that bad I think, all 4th girlies are being marketed as a group still so no it girl like wonyoung yet but as a 4 they're pretty huge with givenchy, chopard etc deals. they also have the biggest 4th gen hit in korea so far

 

5. newjeans - the biggest act to come out of kpop ever on their first 6months, prolly gonna be bigger than bots and crackstink in 3 years. showing early signs that all 5 girls are gonna be like the BLACKPINK girlies/it girls/fashion girlies, 6months later and Hype Boy still top 3 and slaying globally, Attention still top 10 while having Ditto and OMG #1 and #2 respectively. the first and only kpop girl group that actually broke and rivaled bp on spotify streams etc etc

Is touring a metric for current power though? We know that legacy acts always have huge touring stats. Like Elton John just scored the highest-grossing tour of all time, is he more relevant than let's say SZA or The Weeknd in 2023?

Last year, their restocked albums together sold 1M+, Birthday sold 1M, FMR sold 700k and FMR (the song) was SM's biggest hit on the Korean charts and RV was SM's best performing act on Melon and Spotify across the whole company.

The label can decide whether or not to report the data to IFPI. For example, in 2020 they didn't count Chinese sales for folklore but they did it for Changes by Justin.
