In 2020 and 2021, NCT were selling basically on par with Seventeen per album (not overall, where they were actually #1) and were only being outsold by BTS making them either #2 or #3 on overall boy groups at the time. As a brand NCT has been #1 for 3 consecutive years. You say all this as if Red Velvet haven't always been #3 or below in album sales rankings every year of their career (being eclipsed by GFRIEND, TWICE, BLACKPINK etc) by a considerable margin, yet none of y'all are considering Red Velvet a reason for SM's downfall (inb4 someone mentions digital hits and Irene CFs ).

 

If NCT is such a mistake, then why is SM STILL investing the most into NCT than any other brand in the company despite having leadership changes?  Obviously NCT is making bank, but the SM girl group stans refuse to admit it.

You even mentioning Gfriend here makes no sense in 2023 like at all. Second of all, out of their peers they were behind only BP for overall sales in 2022 eclipsing Twice and 3rd out of all girl groups besting 4th gen groups. And besides that no one else has gotten global hits in that company besides RV. We all know NCT has a huge fandom that is profitable like every other boy group but their streaming numbers are so abysmal domestically and internationally. The discrepancy between their physical numbers and streaming is a joke.

 

RV could never be SM's downfall when they can actually serve results physically and digitally (both domestically and internationally with the right song) with their comebacks. Like they are 9 years old and the ball is still rolling.
