No. It's a complicated saga.

 

But basically, LSM was kind of forced to sell his shares, because of these tax/contract scandals. He owns the biggest share of SM (about 18%). He was in talks to sell his 18% to one of HYBE or Kakao or CJ ENM or some others in 2021/22.

 

Most of them decided they weren't interested though, because LSM was demanding to keep creative control. But Kakao was still interested.

 

They got close to buying LSM's 18% shares last year, but then the deal stalled (probably on purpose because LSM doesn't look like he actually wants to step down).

 

So now, this year, quite suddenly, SM decided that they would just create new shares (worth about 9% of the company) and sell those to Kakao instead.

 

LSM says he didn't know anything about it and as the largest shareholder they should have asked him before giving new shares to Kakao, which is why he is now suing.

 

None of this means HYBE will be taking over the whole of SM (for now...), though it looks like they are interested in trying to get a share of SM again.

Only 600k digital points difference. By looking at their chart performance there is no way Shut Down will overtake Pink Venom and catch up around 100M points more. In following weeks i bet Pink Venom outcharted Shut Down on the weekly chart.
