Apparently a lot of ATRLers are agreeing that Taylor will surpass Madonna, the crowned queen of pop, in terms of sales in the near future according to this thread.

Putting aside my belief that threads like this are purposeful trolling, there is something I think a lot of Taylor fans forget. 

 

While she is wildly successful and does what she does very well, she is not cross-generational. Or Cross cultural. Or Cross-racial. Nor is she a multi-genre maven.

 

Taylor both represents and caters to that standardised All-American "ideal". So, while it makes total sense that she'll be able to galvanize that mass audience (and those who revere that), I think it's lost on a lot of the Swifties that she's not a "thing" or should I say the same "thing" to a wider intergenerational/ multi-cultural audience. 

 

Michael was. And still is.  To a degree, it's the same with Beyonce. There's a certain ability to appeal to ALL that they have that Taylor doesn't. It's not a numbers thing. Numbers do tell a big part of the story, but not all of it. 

 

Sidenote: With all due respect, I'm a POC fan of Taylor and others who represents a lot of intersectionalites. So, on this particular topic, I really know what I'm saying.
