NFR is more timeless/universal. TUN is R&B which fades in and out of relevancy.

NFR! has a more timeless sound to it. Plus, singer-songwriters are having a huge moment on TikTok which definitely is boosting artists like Lana and Taylor. Ariana isn't known for her lyricism which I feel like is why her older tracks aren't blowing up the way other artists' are at the moment.

NFR is better, and a lot of the GP are continuously discovering Lana’s discography. It’s a timeless album that will live on for many years.

 

TUN was Ariana’s worst album. Over three years later it’s clear that its success was caused by the hype driven by her personal life. Ghostin and Bad Idea are the only redeemable songs. Even Yours Truly and My Everything are better.

My Everything sounds dated af.   Problem, Bang Bang and Break Free sound awful nowadays, the first two are reminiscent of the horns-in-pop era and the later of the EDM era.

"My Everything" (playlist-core album, but super memorable and fun era), "Dangerous Woman", and "sweetener" beg to differ. "Yours Truly" is far from a quick little album either. 

 

There is a valid criticism of her abandoning her recent projects post-release, which definitely harmed their longevity. And the fact "thank u, next" and "positions" suffered from pretty lacklustre music videos beyond their leads and a baffling lack of performances, but I'm against this rewriting of history.

It's like you only heard "34+35" from her 6-album discography.... Can't expect much from someone who deems singing about sex as something lesser, as if several pop girls throughout history haven't had their most iconic eras dedicated to the subject ("Erotica", "janet.", "BEYONCE").

"positions" ' relative underperformance really made folks create this ugly misogynistic caricature of Ariana's music, when even the album itself isn't all about sex (but intimacy and learning to build trust and fall in love again following a traumatic loss) and is much more R&B in sound compared to its trap-leaning predecessor.

I used TUN during release week but I don't think I've listened to it since  it was very much of its time, NFR on the other hand just gets better with time

I mean NFR, Mariners, HIAB, and Doin’ Time are all songs that have had cute viral moments on TikTok over the past few months, so I think that’s why people are saying this. And they’re classics in the sense that Lana’s discography doesn’t age. It’s organic-sounding music that gets better with time, as evidenced by the way this 3 year old album is repeaking now with an entirely new audience.
